I just got me some french volumes of Stone Ocean and first thing that greets me is

But apart from that I'm pretty pleased with what I got. The printing is absolutely gorgeous, digital just can't compare with that in any way and I'm pretty glad to know that my french hasn't deteriorated completely.

Jobin and josuke both want the same thing, but for different reasons. One represents selfishness while the other represents humanity


Speed King and soft and wet are both very similar designs deep down, you can draw soft and wet and turn it into speed King with only a few extra added elements

Araki said that he loves drawing killed Queen because its design is clean and simple, which also pertains for soft and wet as his design is simple and clean as well (which is why Araki draws him so often)
Speed King's design is clunky, horrific and dull, the complete opposite
Yet speed King and soft and wet are very similar
Showing that every human carries both selfishness and a sense of humanity

Speed king represents heat, flame
Jobin wears spiky clothing

Soft and wet represents bubbles, water, the ocean (anchor)

Jobins spikes pop the bubbles, speed King boils the water
both their designs contrast in a way that shows who's the threat and why the hero is threatened


Josuke and Jobin, and their respective stands are probably the best representation of a foil dynamic I've seen in years
Literally every small detail between them all had some sort of meaning or connection

Superior writing of my wife's son that fix Part 4:

There's a odd thing about all the rock human stands being spiky and point in some way but the friendly stands being smoother.
King nothing is soft, smooth and fits together. Vitamin C. has the spiked crown, Even their respective ponchos are different.
PP, S&W, KN, Doggy Style are all very soft and round looking.

The arm thing is straight up luck though, but considering everything that happened thus far, that kind of arm physics is the least of Part 2's asspulls

He didn't go into the crowd one-handed. He was obviously right outside to the door, waiting and listening. That's why he pulled the switch so precisely when Josuke was about to heal her. As soon as she exploded his hand got attached to him and he ran into the crowd and the crew followed right after but couldn't manage to find him because of the amount of people, the hand was healed Crazy Diamond wouldn't do anything. Out of all bullshit stunts Araki pulled to make this escape possible. This mixing with the crowd is not an issue or even remotely can be considered a "plot hole"

Yes, this is what my post explicitly mentioned. I'll go over it in more detail.

DIO is the main villain of the part (arguably of the series), and the villain with the most ties to the Joestars. These were only strengthened by him stealing Jonathan's body, with it being pierced by the arrow granting all of them their stand-powers. The link between them was talked about and demonstrated multiple times - the characters can sense each other, DIO spams Joseph's psychic photographs, they're regularly seen talking about each other, etc etc etc.

Star Platinum and The World are the first two stands ever designed, and were always designed to be twins. They're the only two punchghosts in the part. They were awakened by the same arrow. Araki always intended for Splat to have time-stop, and for DIO to be the enemy that forced Jotaro to learn and adapt to reach his full potential, which was to share the same power. If Jotaro had displayed signs of stopping time before fighting DIO, it would diminish DIO's importance, both to him and to the part as a whole.

DIO goes on and on about how his time-stop (which he got by stabbing a stolen Joestar body) makes him superior and special, and Jotaro turning out to be able to do it too was poetic justice. The leg-kick was somewhat anticlimactic, but the climax of the fight wasn't the killing-blow, it was Jotaro making DIO feel as helpless and weak as he'd gleefully done to Jotaro by stopping time on him.

Araki had various narrative routes he could take to display the growth potential for SP and it's parallel to the World but he took none of them. You don't have to bluntly show "Star Platinum just stopped time for .5 seconds!" He could have brought up the similarities between the Stands prior to the actual final fight. Have any of the numerous villains comment on it even. Araki is very fond of large climactic twists at the end, which is fine, but in story there was no real indication that Star Platinum and The World were functionally the same stands until the very end.

And the issue with the whole Requiem deal is that there was no real hint at what type of power it granted. We had some flimsy explanation about the arrow's origins and its ability to "manipulate" spirits right before the end but other than that it was basically a mystery plot device that allowed Araki to do whatever he wanted. The problem doesn't lie with GER existing or being the reason he won the fight. The problem is that power granted by the arrow ended up as just a convenient way to end the fight rather than being a consistent theme in line with SCR or being an extension of the base powers of GE.

And The World was the last stand revealed in the manga as was appropriate given the point of the part - are you really saying you wished it showed up earlier just so characters could talk about its similarities to Star Platinum earlier than they did? You're not a very good writer.

And you're shifting the goalposts dramatically by crying about Requiems being shit. Requiems ARE pretty shit (probably why they never showed up again), but that doesn't make them asspulls.

Your argument as to why Star Platinum's powerup wasn't an asspull has nothing to do with actually countering that point. The similarities between the stands (which had been planned since the beginning of the part) were commented on multiple times. The connections and similarities between the two characters were intentional. I don't understand why you can't get it.

Yes the entire point was that suddenly dropping in a plot convenient ability in chapter 143 of a 151 chapter part was by definition an asspull. And your point is that showing Jotaro twitch in stopped time in DIO's World 10 (out of 18) was sufficient enough foreshadowing for the timestop 8 chapters later in the same continued fight because Araki had intended it to be that way from the start.

I guess this boils down to one's own interpretation of the term 'asspull' but to me bringing up a crucial ability in the final fight of the series is poor writing.

So what this boils down to, ultimately, is that Jotaro didn't fight a random mook at some point in the journey where he displayed time-powers. And if he'd done so, you wouldn't be so hysterically mad, because it wouldn't be an asspull.

Even though it would have been an asspull in that fight, as Star Finger was. Even though the minor enemy would (presumably) have no real connection to Jotaro that would help him discover stuff about his stand and himself. Even though this would drastically diminish the importance of the main villain and his link to the Joestars. If Jotaro had stopped time against like, Arabia Fats, you'd be happy.

But regardless of its use in other fights, it wouldn't have changed how its use in Dark Blue Moon was an asspull, as in it came out of nowhere. Not like time-stop against DIO at all.

I don't think Star Succ could've come in handy again though, unless they fought another gas/vapor-based stand or whatever.

You keep throwing around the thematic importance as if that somehow shields the writing from flaws. Again I had never said nor implied that Jotaro should have stopped time against some minor villain prior. The only thing I had ever said to that was if Araki wanted to display even the potential for some other latent ability in Star Platinum he easily could have in the 142 chapters leading up to that point. But he didn't. He let DIO show his time stopping powers then said Jotaro has them too. Hell you could even say Jotaro being able to move in stopped time was on account of his Joestar blood and not necessarily that his Stand functioned the same way.

Seems like one of those things where rereading it you could imagine it being foreshadowing, but wasn't really Araki intending on the reader thinking something was amiss. If he wants to foreshadow something he'll usually put hints in the dialog, like characters talking about how characters like Yasuho, Trish and Giorno all seeming to have hidden potential (Trish developing a stand, Giorno developing all those new abilities, Yasuho and PP before she knew she had it) but all that people said about Star Platinum was that it was strong, not that it seemed to be hiding stuff.
