I don't think it's exactly the best but the biggest pleasant surprise was the rock band episode. Watching the previews I thought it was going to be terrible but it ended up as one of the funniest episodes.

I don't think Space Dandy was great at being serious. OP and the loli one for example. It wasn't always successful at comedy (Vests vs. Undies) but it had more hits than misses.
