While I agree with you on that, I will say that the pride thing mentioned in >>160962912 and >>160963042 was largely expanded on in the Railgun manga. You could see hints of it in OT1 and 3 of course, but the manga really reinforced it. Kamachi seems to use the spinoffs as a way to go back and compliment stuff that might be a little weak. The Sisters arc and Daihasesei really benefited from the manga. I wonder if they skipped battle royal because he was fine with what happened and feels that it doesn't need anything to compliment it. That and a lot of the major characters get focused on later in the story, so there wouldn't be much to work on other than bolstering up the dead characters even more.

I think a really big problem was NT3 itself. Kamachi was obviously experimenting, which is cool, but he chose a bad novel to do it on. A lot of people were looking forward to Mikoto with Touma sure, but there was also the exchanges with Accel and Worst, as well as Mikoto's direct interaction with magic.

When they happened, a lot of people were alienated by the lack of... substance? I can't think of the right word. I think it's the lack of introspection that made the difference. I don't doubt per say that Accel doesn't give as much of a shit about Mikoto compared to the clones, but then again, Accel is known to be gruff and say shit he only half means in his interactions. His inner thoughts would have been good here. Mikoto's thoughts would have been good there as well I guess, but I think Accel would have been better for the exchange. Mikoto's inner thoughts on WORST would have been nice too. Even an extra exchange with Touma, where Mikoto is showing unease about Accel or something similar, would have really helped and shown that she still has a prejudice towards him (for good reason, since she has the most reason to hate him out of anyone aside from maybe the clones I suppose). Her pushing that aside to stick by Touma anyway would have made for a powerful development, perhaps setting up for some far off point later for Mikoto finally coming to terms and forgiving Accel. The magic interaction has been talked about before; while I think it is a little blown out of proportion by some anons, I do think it wasn't that great a move to not have Touma or someone explain magic fundamentals to Mikoto. NT3 was a great time to do it, and Kamachi could have handwaved the explanation between novels if he didn't want to make a repeat explanation scene. Maybe with a small scene of Mikoto thinking on the revelation. But maybe he avoided it for a reason considering the AAA development. I'm not sure.

Mikoto couldn't have gotten much in that time anyways. That was purely a Touma arc. Just like how GRS arc arguably was more of an Accel/Hamazura arc with GRS just driving the big events from behind.

Another thing is that Mikoto getting the AAA stuff before Kamisato would've impeded what was going on with Touma, because NT2-10 was needed to seemingly set up Touma as a "chosen one" character, only for NT18 to twist that and more or less show Aleister to be the "chosen one" and that Touma, and the other MCs are just weapons for that chosen one.
