Original taste fanfics are only good for shows that are done forever. LWA still got 1 0 M O R E Y E A R S and even Toho expressed desire to do something more with the franchise, though there are no plans at the moment. While I agree writting a character completely different makes it so you might as well just write original fiction, if you don't deviate at least a little bit then you kill all the fun. There is plenty of basis for a Chariot/Akko romantic relationship in the series, much more than there is for odd ships like, I don't fucking know, Andrew/Chariot for example.

Regular simple Dianakko set up in the first 2 chapters, then some humor (with a bit of ecchi) in the next 2 but then a bomb ass chapter 5 with a really heavy Diana and Sucy confrontation. Why does everyone assume this? I should think that the defining factor of a witch would be their use of magic, and as Akko is clearly excelling in her practice of it, the magic that she draws from Yggdrasil like any other witch should similarly benefit her lifespan.

Well Akko strikes me as someone with little magic potential and small magic reserve, and also who is just simply not very efficient at drawing magic from Yggdrasil. Even with full recovery, I doubt she can ever pull stunt like moving statues like Diana. And all the great magic she performs in the show were assisted by the rod.
However, what makes Akko different from others was that she is incredibly efficient with the little magic she is capable of drawing, which allows her to grow to be far more capable of what her potential allows her to be. So I think it would be fair if she starts off as a small tree, and then eventually will grow bigger and bigger.

That said, this is just my take on it, and Akko may very well live as long as Diana and co.
