How do you decide what series to read/watch next? It always takes me forever to find a new one to dive in to.

I watch anime in batches once every few months and I go by chronological order (aired date), when there is a sequel of some series I watched then I usually marathon from the first season to the current one to not miss any details (my memory is bad I forget easily many things).
I rarely watch ongoing series unless something has been memed so hard that it got me just too curious to ignore it, but I'd rather shorten my backlog whenever I can (stalled in 2014 right now).

I've started and stopped a fuck ton of manga series recently. I just want something I don't have to force myself to read through.

This is how I do it.
Over a few years I have put a lot of shows into my plan to watch list. Then I watch most of the fist episodes of those shows and move them to on hold (Some shows I drop at episode 1). Now I have some 73 shows that might be worth a watch, in my on-hold list. So I use random generator to pick 3 shows. Then i give those three shows a 3 episode chance. If they pass that, then I have 3 shows to watch.
Right now I picked: Fushigi yuugi, Last exile and Texhnolize.

Read synopsis.

premise, synopsis , youtube vids to check animation quality
I haven't watched anime in 2years
>>
I watch like 10 random shows and drop around 8 or 9 of them. The remaining ones usually catch my interest enough to finish.
>>
>look for drawing style I like
>read the plot and see if it's a cliché plot
>look at the release rate (not picking abandoned series)
>filtering out shonen, gender-bender and harem meme series
