Why don't you silly bakas support small encoders?

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Why don't you silly bakas support small encoders?
>>
I use HS because at least the bot manages to name its releases consistently.
>>
>>160875893
What are you even getting at, anon?
>>
>>160875893
>shitty low quality encodes
>most of them relase their shit in 720p
>very often dogshit stylized fonts
>takes them too long to release the show
Those are the main reasons.
>>
I do, just not those.
>>
>>160876926
>most of them relase their shit in 720p
It's not like the source material is any of that higher.
What I don't get is the meme of upscaling and encoding already a low-resolution series to 1080p etc. and up. It only ends up bloating the filesize and the benefits (BDs are an exception though) are negligible by a far amount.

So basically, there's no real reason for other encodes when the source material is poop.
>>
>>160877155
>It's not like the source material is any of that higher.
Most shows air at 900p, so yes that is higher than 720p. Its rather have a 1080p upscaled version from 900p than a 720p downscaled one.
>>
>>160876984
Erai does alright
>>
>>160877261
Is there any difference between Erai and HS? Which one is superior?
>>
>>160877155
>What I don't get is the meme of upscaling and encoding already a low-resolution series to 1080p
If you are referring to horriblesubs rips, CR and shit get 1080p masters and everything else is downscales. Most things that air these days is also mastered at >720p anyway.
>>
>>160875893
>Why aren't you guys as retarded as me?
>>
>>160875893
Because even after all these years, I still don't know what an encoders even does. I just use whatever I can to easily watch anime.
>>
>>160878117
Thats the main reason. There are too many different encoders, too many differing levels of quality and most of them encode too few shows. Which means that every time you download something youd have to double check and compare multiple releases to see which is the best one. Thats too much fucking work, especially since torrenting takes time if the seeding is bad so its very logical to simply go with the most accessible encode and simply call it a day, even if you plan on storing the file. This only becomes a bit more important if you store A LOT and want to reduce folder size so you search for better encodes, since sometimes a good encode can cut like 50% of the overall file size. However, thats not something that the average user (read: 90%+ of them) really gives a shit about.
>>
>>160875893
If you're doing something for Epenis you should stop because HS already does that.
>>
>>160875893
It possible people are mistaking the name [Erai-raws] for actual raw anime at a glance, without understanding the icon or reading the end of the file name. That and proper naming for rss is essential, which some small encoders fuck up.
>>
>>160877762
>CR and shit get 1080p masters
Motherfuckers
>>
>>160878583
This seems plausible. Who the hell would possibly think it's a good idea to put "raws" in the name of a scanlated file?
>>
>>160878885
It's actually not their fault, it is just what the nips send them.
>>
>>160878949
Fucking gooks
>>
>>160877391
Never noticed any in the releases. Erai is the guy who maintains Pantsu, or has been at some point. Kept leaking IPs so anons made the connection
>>
>>160878210
>not using x265 in 2017
why?
>>
>>160875893
Because I don't seed on public trackers. Just downloading shit doesn't support anyone.

The free market has decided that quick and simple is superior, with a smaller portion valuing "luxury" subs, with features like OP+ED subs and lyrics, styling, and typesetting. If smaller encoders cannot offer greater or equal speed, or a more luxury release they will be driven out of the market. Smaller encoders and teams are better off working on completed shows in need of rereleases, BD batches, and other smaller titles not being picked up by other BD groups to remain relevant.

Free market bitch, literally git gud or git out.
>>
>>160877391
HS because two-pass encodes. CR is so shit they make their CRF encodes look worse than their two pass'.
>>
>>160877155
I don't really care. I watch DVD quality. I just want moar seeds 24 hrs a day! and none of that 10-16bit encode nonsense no one asked for and I can't play it on my chinkphone.
>>
>>160878885
So /a/ lied and CR shills are saving animus like TRIGGERED?!
>>
>>160880793
Shut up and fuck off.
>>160877155
Because it's not 720p, it's higher.
>>160878210
>a good encode can cut like 50% of the overall file size
A good encode is the one that offers the best available video quality.
>>
>>160880623
Just release the best available version and you'll always have a market. It's that easy.
>>
>>160881226
>A good encode is the one that offers the best available video quality.
And in some cases a file that is 1gb has an equal quality to one that is 2gb. I've seen this happen dozens of times while downloading remastered BDrips of shows from the 70s to 90s. Some of those encodes are complete trash. Or even better, I downloaded an encode of Hyouge Mono that was like 1.5ish gb an EP and compared it to the 600 mb rips that I already had stored and the former ended up being more blurry.
>>
Just for shits and giggles I did some comparison between HorribleSubs 1080p, 720p and 480p releases. If anyone is interested:

Sometimes but 90% of the time the bigger the better, anime encoders are among the best.

You say that 1GB is wasted, I say it's not even if they look the same to you. There's a limit but it's definitely not 2/3GB per episode of a 1080p encode of a cel anime.
>>
>>160881675
By any chance, do you have Erai to compare it to HS?
>>
>>160881675
1080p obviously looks better. It has more detail.
>>
>>160881698
You say that but I've seen it so often that bigger files added nothing, comparing dozens of scenes from different episodes while both files had FLAC audio quality. Sometimes bigger is better, yes. But very often bigger doesnt do anything. This is particularly true for shows from the 00s because the base files arent even available in a different resolution but 480p'ish. So whether the file is 250mb or 1.5gb is irrelevant since the source is always the same. You can add image quality that doesnt exist so your video player will have a bigger impact on the quality than the file size. BDrips are ALWAYS better than HS rips, sure, but theres a gignatic range of good and bad encodes among BDrips in general.
>>
>>160881952
I also compared bitrates of heavily animation scenes with particularly high color depth etc. I didnt just look at stills.
>>
>>160881952
>I've seen it so often that bigger files added nothing
In your opinion. Maybe it's right, maybe it's wrong.
>This is particularly true for shows from the 00s because the base files arent even available in a different resolution but 480p'ish. So whether the file is 250mb or 1.5gb is irrelevant since the source is always the same
Now, I'm not an expert, correct me if I'm wrong but in those situations where they encoded the BDs of SD early 00's anime with stupid filters like in the case of Haibane Renmei an encode in HD that tries to preserve the detail and correct the work of those filters may need more bitrate and in the end will still be better than the best encode of the DVD.
