I think thats probably my biggest problem with this manga is that aside from Rin and Yukio, most the characters seem really weak.

Bon's verses could be OP as seen with Lightning, but he's not nearly that strong yet and we haven't really had any chances to see him shine with them.

Baldy is just useless aside from plan making. Shiemi is pure support and Izumo has gotten trashcanned every fight she's been in aside from the aforementioned transformation she had.

Shima was useless until Izumo's arc, though I guess that was intentional since he wasn't really using his forte til then.

But yeah, I'd like if they got more proper moments to show they aren't worthless.

Rin probably sees Shura as a teacher, a superior.

To Yukio, she's a co-worker, an equal. More room for sexual tension, especially since she teases him more than she does Rin.

Not to say she doesn't care for Rin, she clearly does, but I don't think its in that way at all.

Yukio has been training to fight demons all his life while his brother got to have a normal life. Then suddenly Rin gets magical awesome powers that immediately make him stronger despite Yukio's years of hard work and lost childhood. Of course he's a mess. And Rin is the only person in the world he can relate to and Rin doesn't seem to care at all about where they come from so he feels even more alone. And then of course an American comes into his life to ruin everything.

Rin had his fair share of shit too.

He had no real future ahead of him before everything happened. Then he feels guilty for killing his dad, then he had to deal with the shame of being the son of the most hated demon in the world, which for a while made his only friends hate him.

And then he has a brother who is constantly putting him down for things outside of his control, and he wants to build a better relationship with said brother, but the brother always pushes him away and secretly hates him.

So yeah, Rin's gotta a pretty rough lot too.

Not saying Rin didn't go through trials I'm just trying to explain Yukio's stunted social growth.

That being said he needs to be a piece of shit if he's going to get a redemption arc with any kind of weight. As the co-main character he won't truly get a bad end.

Maybe 2-3 chapter from now he'll realize what had all along but will be to fucked to do anything about it. Then 5 years from now the series will end and we'll get that anime ending where everyone bops him on the head and says something chastising but in a light hearted manner.
