You forgot top idols of school, first cover girls, getting BTFO constantly, and being generally stupid. Going by LN spoilers and foreshadowing, it's evident Chiaki has the hidden main heroine role. MC rejecting Karen in favor of Mono-san (Chiaki) is a blatant one early on. This Karen episode was pretty much filler that didn't have anything to do with the current plot in which she's just a neglected side character.
