The anime was legit trash you moron, and certainly one of the worse Macross shows to date. The sheer amount of elements the movie would have to fix in order to make Delta anything other than gutter shit is unreasonable, so I don't expect any miracles.

By the way, I can't speak for anyone else, but most of the critiques about Macross being "dead" came from the verifiable observation of the writing getting progressively worse as the entries keep piling up. The franchise will keep shitting new productions as long as it keeps selling merchandise and CDs though, regardless of their quality, and that much is clear to anyone unless they're taking the piss.

Messer's death felt like a waste to me and a bad decision because apart from being pointless it had a negative impact in the series and most of the characters. He was a nice balance for Hayate and Mirage on one hand, and on the other one Keith really shines when Messer is involved (and from the live event I think the staff must have realized this too). Also, while Kaname is a great character on her own it's a shame that her story with Messer ended before it even could begin.

Yes that would have been great but it didn't happen, Messer's death wasn't the reason Hayate or Freyja decided to confess or to be more time with each other, it didn't affect them at all.
