I see two possibilities. Firstly, Dragon & co were gone by the time Blackbeard got there...if you'll recall, it looked like Ivankov was getting ready for guests the last time we saw him in a cover arc, so that might be where the Revolutionaries were planning to meet anyway. Blackbeard just trashed the place when they found it empty.

But that feels kinda weak. My guess is, despite what Burgess thought, Blackbeard showed up wanting a deal. Part of that deal was making it look as if Blackbeard beat the Revolutionaries. After all, Dragon's planning on attacking the Reverie, so if the WG thinks they've been taken down, security will be that much less attentive.

What would Blackbeard get out of this deal? Hard to say, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if he wants to get up to Mariejois for his own purposes, as part of his big master plan. He tends to know more than he should, so perhaps he knows about the 'national treasure' Doflamingo mentioned.

Why does stuff have to "mean" something? Why is enjoying the now and then not more important than the future meaning of it all? But there is. Atleast from what we know so far. We just know people with the D. tend to strive for freedom and self-fulfillment in some way, and have great ambition, and they are the enemies of god. Are they all related? Is it coincidence they they share the name? We don't know. We just know that the will of D. is somehow "creeping through history", like some kind of unembodied concept. And I think that is pretty cool. Would it hurt to get a bit more information on it? Of course not. But having the hole thing fully explained as some ancient magic or whatever in a detailed back story about how Joyboy or whoever did exactly this or that at that time to determine the fate of all, that just seems unfitting to me.
I personally do not care about what does or does not constitute as "great storytelling". I study literature, and I am under the impression that a good execution is much more important than a "good story". I find thematic coherence much more interesting. One Piece is about the adventure, not the treasure at the end of it.
And I find it weird that people focus more on the future than on the present, and miss the point entirely. These are the people who say that "nothing happened in this chapter". These are the people who didn't enjoy Tom Bombadil. These are the nerds I wanna see angry.

I think people would just like to know what the legend is because Luffy and Garp are not the same as Dragon and Blackbeard and Saul was just a totally ordinary guy who is given mystique by the D but in-universe, had nothing special about him, same with the families of some of the D's we've met

The D doesn't need to be explained but it should be explained what the legend is, so we know why characters think what they do, like why is Luffy hated for being a D but Garp is beloved despite being a D. Clearly the D's we've met don't necessarily know their name matters so why would anyone else?

There will always be things left unexplained that don't make sense but they don't really matter (like how are D's special if they are passed down from family members because then clearly there's regular D's all over the place who never become anything) but just going out of your way to have side characters allude to things for fucking decades and then abandoning that plotline altogether would be retarded...the D's, is just like Vegapunk and the Devil Fruits, or even One Piece itself, Oda has alluded to it so hard that he put the pressure all on himself

Honestly, I never cared what the Devil fruits origins were or thought it was important but Oda goes out of his way to make sure you think it is important and then promised in the SBS it will be revealed, meaning he has answers to these questions in his own head

This isn't The Sandman where Gaiman alludes to things briefly but doesn't actually know the answers himself and says so, Oda explicitly claims to be building to something

The problem with this opinion is that much of the SJ readership is in fact female. I recall seeing somewhere that almost half of One Piece readers are girls. These comments are really dismissive of many of his readers. If he has this attitude, that means he isn't catering the at least half of his audience. well it could stil work as a paramecia. Luffy is gum, and he's stretchy. Mochii on the ther hand is gelatinous, so he getting split from the attack but not taking damage could still be part of his becoming a mochi human.

Not the problem would be in his ability to produce further mochi than what was already contained in his body, because only logias possess both of those characteristics.
But we know that Luffy can expand his body, and and apparently katakuri can too, as we've seen him sometimes extend a huge mochi arm or leg.
The various instances of mochi separated from his body coud be just that, small parts of his body expanded, that he can reattach later on.
But we haven't seen him produce rivers of mochi, like eve shitty logia users do.

Another thing that makes his paramecia special though is that his clothes seem to be mochi too. This could be a characteristic of his ruit, or it could be that all the special traits he has are because he awakened his fruit.

Also it's possible that unlike logias he still took damage from ichiji's attack.

It's easy for a girl to like a shonen and then imagine extra elements that weren't expressly part of a story to then fit their added expectations on top. But you can't take romance back once it's in a manga and teenage boys don't generally care for it, especially in Japan.

Ultimately, if anyone is looking for romance in One Piece, they're probably looking at characters that haven't expressed interest in a relationship anyway. It's fine to want to write fanfiction or make art or whatever else for a pairing or story, yadda yadda. This is only as long as it never dominates the overarching narrative of that story. Naruto was ruined by Kishimoto's awful storytelling in Shippuden, but any lasting appeal if could have had was drowned in a wave of bitching about the final pairings. I'd hate for that to happen to One Piece, and I'm sure Oda feels the same.

I almost fully agree. I personally think he can't produce mochi externally from his body but, due to the malleable nature of mochi, he can produce it from his own mochi-like body and then exude some level of control of it from there, just as he did with the ear-mochi balls. I would also imagine that he doesn't need to reattach any mochi he leaves external from his body, though it's entirely possible that he can do, given he gummed up Bege's cannons and didn't seem to suffer any ill effects in doing so.

It's a shame the Ichiji scene was off screen, albeit it did make the moment cooler, as it's not clear what happened to allow him to reform. Was it a case of him physically reattaching his torso to his loose standing legs? Or was he able to just re-mold his mochi-like body from a part of himself and then grab Ichiji right after? Both are entirely possible and add on to that unique element of his devil fruit, given how powerful an ability that is to possess.

Well I was going from the page when he was attacked by Ichiji.
If he can split his body in half he can presumably also plit things like his foot or his arm or a finger.
If he can't prduce extra mochi because he's not a logia and any mochi that he lays around comes from his body then he might need to reattach it if it's enough mochi matter.
The earrplugs could come from just some hairs that have been expanded.
But the cannon plugs should be more sizeable, things like fingers or penis.
Maybe that's why he covers his mouth?

There was never going to be any major ongoing romance but One Piece having no romance will no longer be true. It maybe failed or long distance but this whole arc has been about Sanji and pudding's relationship.

Possible, but I feel like a simpler explanation is much more likely in his case, even with his uniqueness. I think he can likely mold and create as much additional body-mochi as stamina would allow him too, that being an obvious limitation mechanic so he can't just infinitely utilise the stuff. That way he can do the things you suggested, such as the creation of the ear-mochi, without having to actually sacrifice any part of his body, however minor. It would also make his follow up actions after Ichiji's attack make sense if he just chose a part of his blown apart body to re-mold and the rest simply turned into mochi.

I think both are possible and it'd be an interesting dynamic if he did have to do what you suggested. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some sort of additional downside to his abilities, on top of the weakness to water and, I would imagine, being a bit sticky.

I genuinely think that they'll part as friends and nothing more. I don't think this arc has been about them and their romance, really, it's been about Sanji. His lingering issues with his family, his opinions on the treatment of women, his loyalty to his nakama. The fact that Pudding's now on his side is a reflection that he's a good guy, cut from a far different cloth than his emotionless siblings who'd beat a girl just to spite him. He's also nothing like the monsters she's been raised around. Whenever she manages some of her devil fruit shenanigans, because I don't doubt she will in order to help them escape, it'll be in gratitude, not out of love.
