I never watched it, but the first volume of the LN was nearly unreadable trash. Truly one of the worst I've ever suffered through.

Kyoukai no kanata was an enjoyable anime. I'll admit the actual story could've been better but the characters were okay and i enjoyed the art style.

I haven't read the LN, but I remember hearing that the anime was a pretty loose adaptation since they didn't have a lot of material to go off of.
