Anytime I meet someone who claims to be a huge otaku and that they love anime more than anything but has no idea who Tezuka is then I just blow them off. I'm not asking them to watch every episode of the first Astro Boy anime since even I haven't seen all the classics myself, but at least have some curiosity on how your favorite hobby came to be. I'm not trying to dick ride old anime because there are plenty of old anime that is either shit or doesn't hold up anymore, but I'm not going to take someone seriously if they don't know actually know shit about hobbies. This place isn't as bad when it comes to that which is why I haven't left, but I can't say the same for other anime communities. The same thing goes for anime production too since there are lots of self claimed otaku that don't know shit about how anime is made, but that's a separate rant.

None of this applies to the casual anime watcher though. I'm not gonna give someone shit for being ignorant about anime if they aren't that much into it in the first place. It's only the self proclaimed otaku that watch anime all the time, but can't even be assed to really learn about it that piss me off.

I genuinely like anime as a medium in general, and regularly watch 20+ series every season. I know Japanese, so even the bad shows are good as background noise, and usually most average shows have at least a single nice quality about them.

I also think that people who absolutely refuse to watch modern stuff are just stuck-up close-minded elitists who don't actually enjoy anime. But for some reason, they're the most vocal and annoying in every single discussion on the matter. Same goes for people who desire to be unique snowflakes so badly that they'll hate on content just for being popular.

I legitimately hate over the top endings. Gainax tends to have a lot of them. EoE, TTGL, FLCL, Gunbuster to name a few. I much prefer more simpler endings, like where a character gets over a personal emotional hurdle or a simple goodbye.
Graduation endings always hit me the hardest, and the graduation scene in Angel Beats hit me more than anything else in the show rather than the ending.
