Let's talk about why this guy isn't more popular on /a/. It's unironically one of the better manga I've read, with one of the most memorable endings ever.

Devilman is popular on /a/. It gets mentioned all the time.
Miki was love.

Ryo x Akira
A much better match.

It's pretty popular.
I am just waiting for more news on the adaption. Wondering how it will look like with flash animation. Hopefully Yuasa delivers.

Saru isn't completely Flash. If you watched Ping Pong, you'd know this.

The ending just rushed past a lot of shit but it's definitely iconic.
If Nagai had been a little more methodic to wrap it up I'd probably have it as downright perfect.

Ping Pong was created by a different studio and only certain scenes were being done by Flash the rest was traditional. His new works seem to be mostly Flash animatoion.

Is it really good ? I'm thinking of reading it because it influenced Zetman.

Definitely read it. It inspired many more manga and you notice the influence it had on Zetman. I wont promise that its a masterpiece but its worth a read at least.

Except for the ending, there's nothing that really stands out about Devilman. 7/10

The themes and ideas that it brings up are still relevant to this day. Futility of war, humanities descent into insanity, love/friendship etc. It had great expressive art(sometimes) and paneling with a lot of strong emotions. Other than that the beginning parts and the setup were fun superhero stories with a violent, demonic twist. Its also really short so it doesnt stretch things out, so much so that it has pacing issues. And the ending stands out like you said.
Overall its a pretty interesting and great comic. 8.5/10
