You haven't articulated how the show is any of the things you described it as but fair enough:
The complexity of the main problem of the series is intriguing. There's a pretty good twist about halfway through, characters act sensibly, the action is top notch and used sparingly. The characters are all likable.

I'm trying to be vague to avoid spoilers if anyone lurking is interested. It's well worth watching, but I admit I struggled early on when it settles down for a few episodes because good Lord, is it slow for a few episodes. I literally had it on hold on and off for months, watching an episode here and there until I got to 12, which I watched today, and then that's where it picks up for what seems to be the rest of the series.

I am on 19 now, and have been completely transfixed since 12. It was interesting before that, there's just a good 4-6 episodes (6 or 8-12 or so) where the main plot calms down. Things happen, it just shares screen time with character stuff. Like Flower Wine for Tanda, episode 11. I'm sure that'll be significant to the character later or something but at the moment I can't quite put my finger on the point of that episode...Maybe expanding the world/showing some magic and exactly how it works, or rather how much mystery there is with it and how little even the sage Torogai knows about the worlds. And character stuff for Tanda. If anything, that's actually one of the slower episodes that actually makes more sense to be there, though they technically all do (Chagum's determination, where we see he becomes less useless and braver, which expands as the series goes on...that episode sets the foundation for his growth, even if it's slow).
I feel like that's what the slow episodes do, even if they distract from the extremely intriguing main plot.

Honestly loved everything about this show until the cgi water god.

This was top of the line doujin material but we barely got any porn, let alone something decent.

Yeah, wondering what the supernatural nonsense is for 22 episodes until gets infodumped by magic creatures and they finally bother to read what they could have read since before ep1 sure is complexity at its finest.

The show had like 3 action sequences in 20+ episodes. Two were good, the final one was a huge mediocrity.

Also any human conflict super simplified. They only do bad things because they are misinformed and ignorant for the sake of plot. Once the bs "mystery" is solved they are all revealed to be good guys.

Misinformation/misunderstanding is what drives a lot of conflict in a lot of stories. I don't think it's a problem here.

No it's not interesting because is all about how MAGIC works which means it's could be literally anything.

The first problem is that there are no actual opposing interests in a too long for its own good series that could use more complexity. The second problem is that the misinformed people have everything they need to know right under their noses but they don't bother to read it.

The director Kenji Kamiyama is working on a new GitS series a la SAC. I have high hopes for it since ARISE was a disappointing direction for me. Would love to see another Moribito series. The second book is available in English.
