Alright, so i decided to try dumping the released volumes of this one manga since its a pretty good mix of great art and mystery, traps and what not. Ill try to keep the thread alive as best as i can, if it works, ill end up dumping the entire thing.
Synopsis: In the distant future, a new immortal and genderless life form called Gems populate the Earth. The 28 Gems must fight against the Moon Dwellers, who attack them regularly to abduct them and to turn them into decorations. Each Gem is assigned a role, such as a fighter or a medic.
Being only 300 years old, Phosphophyllite is the youngest of the Gems and has no assignment yet. He wants to help to fight the Moon Dwellers, but is too weak and brittle for battle. One day the master of Gems, Adamantine, assigns him the task of creating a natural history encyclopedia.

Starting with Volume 1, the first half of what i call the Ocean Arc.

Aaand thats the end of volume. Now ill just keep bumping until we hit universal heat death or until i get enough posters to justify dumping vol 2 today too.
or better ill just make as many bumps as characters appeared on the volume
dont worry OP, i was reading. thanks for the dump
>>160566704
im going to cry here, someone actually read it
alright then it was worth it
ill dump vol 2 tomorrow and so on, its gonna be a week of gem people
I'm already up to date on the chapters, but thanks for posting this OP. I'd always like for this manga to get a little more interest.
>>160566786
yeah i assumed most replies were from people that already know it. Somehow this manga always fails to grab attention even though its so good. That said it might not be noticeable how good it is until we reach the Winter Arc.
>>160557091
Wait, so this is basically jap Steven Universe?
I like the art and the boy is cute. Will read later.
>>160566932
No, Steven Universe is western Houseki No Kuni, since hnk was created first.
But that said, i cant tell you much since i never read Steven Universe so besides them both having gems i dont know if there are other simmilarities. The gems are prettier here at least. And Houseki is more about the mystery surrounding the world and the development of Phos.
>>160567059
Oh wow, knowing that this came first makes SU even more shit. Anyway thanks for introducing me to this, like I said I don't have time to read now but I will look it up later. If only for the qt traps.
oh right, as for the arcs (its entirely my opinion), they go like this
>Ocean Arc
Chapter 1-10
>Winter Arc
Chapter 11-20
>Shiro Arc
Chapter 21-28
>Suspicions Arc
Chapter 29-44
>Moon Arc
Chapter 45-56
>??? current arc
>>160567138
go for it, anon. You will like it.
>>160565120
The official english translation doesn't use he or she at all, normally I'm not that supportive of translators because of localization garbage but they did a great job keeping it the way it's supposed to be.
>>160567870
I also think they are great, that said, im feeling things will become increasingly complicated for them if they keep trying to avoid using pronouns altogethers. Using "them" is the best option at the moment, although it has its problems too.
This shit was pretty cool, I really like the art style. the design of the Moon-people clashes with the Gem's, and it makes fights look really cool.
>>160568323
Glad that you liked it anon. Stay tuned for next volume tomorrow.
alright, final bump
>>160566775
Is it bad that I don't remember like 5 of these gems?
>>160558672
This series isn't written by some hipster that is trying to force their political agenda down people's throats. So it's infinitely better. Aldo the rock people are properly androgynous; not all inexplicably female despite rocks not having a set gender.
>>160561733
I love Bortz's hair, always makes for good paneling.
>>160567870
>>160568040
Don't the gems use masculine pronouns in japanese anyways?
>>160572958
Depends, did you just start this with the thread? Then is perfectly reasonable. If not you should at least remember 10.
>>160573499
>>160573499
>Don't the gems use masculine pronouns in japanese anyways?
Actually, they do. The problem is that in general females in japan could use masculine pronouns too (of course its innapropiate but its not as offputting as a female using his/him to refer to herself in english). The rest of their speech patterns vary a lot depending from gem to gem. Honestly sticking to male pronouns is not as bad as some fans believe as long as you make clear that they arent actually dudes.
Which i didnt on this thread so thats my fault.
>>160573729
It's a difficult position for translation. Does the fact that the characters might appear feminine mean that stuff like 'boku' and 'ore' have different meanings? Does that also factor into the fact that the gems are supposed to have just the vaguest understanding of humanity? I thought using him/he worked well because outside of a few cases (Rutile, Bortz, padparadash,Antarcticite, andghost) most of the gems ride on the female side of the androgyny line so having them use more masculine terms contrasts with their feminine looks.
>>160574152
Fuck messed up that last spoiler.
>most of the gems ride on the female side of the androgyny line so having them use more masculine terms contrasts with their feminine looks.
>>160574152
>>160574152
>Does the fact that the characters might appear feminine mean that stuff like 'boku' and 'ore' have different meanings?
Well, for example -and i want to make clear i barely know japanese- i know that if a guy says boku is not the same as if it a girls says it. What they transmit with it its somehow different. But since the gems have no stated gender, i believe its just a way to show that. For example, Bortz uses boku. One would expect him to use Ore, but he refers to himself like that probably in the sense that he is younger than some other gems.
I also agree that the gems you mentioned look or act more "manly", if we can even use that word. Its also curiously seen with their bodies. Compare the body of Cairngorm/Ghost with Morganite from the volume cover. He has a wide back and a sort of slim, but pretty much definitively male physique. While Morganite >>160557186, Euclase, etc have wider wips and so, like females.
>>160563709
I love the layout of this page so much
I love all of Phos' development, but re-reading leaves me missing the old naive and useless Phos too
>>160577338
Seeing naive Phos is like thinking about the good parts of your childhood. You like them, miss them but you know they arent coming back.
Thanks OP
>>160557091
bump
It's always nice to re-read this but I hope this storytime doesnt attract shitposters.
Looking back I wouldnt have guessed that Phos would reach a point that he would do anything like in the latest chapter. I cant wait to see Rutile's reaction.
