For example, the building on the bottom of this pic, Busta Shinjuku (a brand new bus terminal connected to JR Shinjuku Station) was still under construction while they were making this show, which means that they gathered all the available info to confirm how it'd look irl. I also spotted another skyscraper that had not been completed by the time the movie was released. How come they spent so much effort on little details is beyond me

I know this is bait so I won't reply properly, but as a manga reader of KnK, you're either shitposting (most likely), a secondary or just plain wrong. I liked both movies by the way.
Good thing I'm in the mood to compare these movies.

Though they did include the parts which had the most impact, the lead up to these parts felt mundane due to the severe pacing and cutting they went through.

Very subjective, knnw literally had the best animators who are currently active in Japan working on it.
Not saying Kyoani isn't good, but the KnnW team had veteran names from Ghibli and other animation geniuses.

Not at all. KnnW had superb characterization whereas KnK every character but Ishida suffered from their characters cut down to movie length.
None of them had any depth but him and maybe Shouko who also had her scenes severely altered and cut.

Arguable but the VA's weren't anime VAs which gave it more of a natural feel, due to their expressions feeling genuinely like they were teenagers maturing. Instead of A list VA's trying hard to imitate what a blind girl sounds like with random noises.

I think the flaws Shinkai is kicking himself over are storytelling and directorial flaws that can't be fixed with just a few added frames. I think the flaw is when Mitsuha's diary entries were disappearing on his phone, Taki's own entries went too from before the swapping started. Some consider it a plot hole, some consider that he deleted them himself in the montage because of issues regarding privacy and his rules for the bodyswapping not working.

The self-deleting diary entries thing was bullshit and so were the self-deleting memories in general. It felt like an omnipotent trickster was just throwing obstacles at them to keep them apart for the sake of making the movie longer. It was as dumb as having a demon king suddenly show up and kidnap Mitsuha and force Taki to fight an army of goblins, and then as soon as he defeats the demon king he just resurrects and does more bullshit. Like in Spectre.

It would have strained my suspension of disbelief a lot less if, for example, they couldn't read or write at all while bodyswapped, because that's actually a thing you can't do in a dream. Or just some other way that they have trouble communicating their own identities, so I'm not sitting there wondering how many times they'll magically forget details they already knew.

Overall the story was pretty frustrating.
