I like him but I do get why people wouldn't like him. He is in-canon a fucking weirdo, in most other series his character would just be the "we like him because he's kind!" guy and nothing more. He is lucky in a lot of respects and he doesn't feel he deserves any of said good luck, that sentiment is actually a key part of his entire character even. The entire second half of the main series features shit constantly backfiring on him and him just having little success with anything.

Personally I find that interesting for a protagonist but I imagine a lot of people would find his backwards way of thinking about certain things frustrating.
