A little background to this recording. Origa was supposed to actually be at the convention to perform. However they had to do a livestream instead because she got stuck in Canada across the Detroit River due to the US border patrol denying her entry into the country because something about her Russian passport that they didn't like.
So instead she was set up in some hotel literally across the river and did a livestream instead. This is a recording of that event during November 2014 at Youmacon.

The game is very good I would say. It's a rpg system which focuses on songs to do battle. Think Symphogear but they're more supportive and create big nukes while their guardian protects her and fights enemies while she's building energy.

The series Ar Tonelico and Ar Nosurge are unique in that there is a heavy emphasis on song magic and building the relationship between singer and guardian through a shared mindscape that's kind of like a VN but it's split up into different things.

Also the game has some very serious twists that you will not see coming. Especially one big one that literally changes the game itself.

However, in the later part of the game there are a fair amount of plot points that would be more significant if you played the first Ar Tonelico game which was for Playstation 2 because it has a setting and a few characters from that.

This PS4 game is actually a prequel to the first PS2 game while also being a sequel to Playstation Vita game, Surge Concerto, that never got localized. There is a pastebin with the entire summary of that plot. Not required reading but it fills in quite a bit of holes and you don't feel as lost going into Ar Nosurge as you would without knowing what happened in its predecessor.

There are 4 games localized of the series. Ar Tonelico 1, 2, Qoga, and Ar NoSurge.

I do believe the series has very rare discussions on /a/, /jp/, and the occasional discussion on /v/ and /vr/.
