How is this a gambling show?
They're all just cheating whores.
There is no skill involved.
>>
You're a fucking moron. Cheating is how you win at gambling. If you try to play honestly you will lose.
>>
>>160494052
>gambling
>skill
luck isn't a skill.
Everyone and their mother can play blackjack.
>>
>>160494052
Gambling frequently doesn't involve skill. Involving cheating actually makes it more about skill and thought, especially with short games with small numbers of rounds.
>>
>>160494052
>expecting to win against the house

you stupid fuck
>>
>>160494052
The skill in gamble is to cheat.

Also can some anon explain me how they won ?
As I understand it, they exchange the boards,
But how could that work ? how can you call properly ?
>>
>>160494108
The dude beat Jabami and he did it by playing a completely honest game
>>
Cheating is a skill dumbass

MC's main goal is to make the series about gambling.
>>
>>160494147
For the game itself, the chips all worth the same. It was only the final scoring where their monetary value mattered. During play they were identified by what they looked like and whose they were rather than value.
>>
>>160494216
thank you anon
>>
>>160494052
Most gambling shows focus on cheating rather than skill, because it's entertaining.

Like Kaiji, or Legendary Gambler Tetsuya
>>
>>160494052
>They're all just cheating whores.
So, it's about women being women?
>>

let's a have a show on coin toss gambling
>>
>>160494167
thats because she was also playing a completely honest game

now find ONE gambling parlor in the entire world where the house plays honest game
>>
>>160494681
>he beat her at a gamble honestly
>but that doesn't count because I don't like it, that means that you can't win at gambling honestly!
>>

literally everywhere except some 3rd world shithole maybe
>>
>>160494728
You're hilarious, kid
>>

The only 'gamble' was a guy at the studio poking his head into his buddies office and saying 'I bet you $20 you couldn't get a script greenlit for an anime composed solely of smug reaction images'

Why would you watch Kakegurui instead of literally any other gambling anime/manga? It can barely be called gambling at that point, it's just soft femdom pandering.

The players all write on a form what they owe and to who.
After the game ends, the student council pays out money to the people who the money is owed to, clearing that debt, and the student council takes control of the debt.
So that's why Suzui got a huge check, because Mary lied about owing him money.
If the winner of the game had the lowest debt in that game, they get it cancelled.
But mostly the position you end the game in determines what value of debt you owe the student council: you want to end in a better position than you started.

I agree, but the 'third plate's exhaust pipe stayed clogged nonetheless' was a horrible asspull
>>
>>160498921
It was foreshadowed before the match even started and only gave Akagi a slight edge over Washizu. It wasn't the core mechanic of the game. In Kakegurui the games are devoid of any substance except the stupid trick, and the trick is devoid of substance too because it's an asspull.
>>
>>160499204
>Not foreshadow
Dude, the big guy wrote an imaginary debt to his friend to join the game. He wasn't a pochi. Mary just took it to a higher level and wrote an even bigger debt.

The rest of the game is just a confusing mess that only works because MC can see the future or something.

What do you mean? Of course it's the only time it happens, not every game is the same and not everyone cheats the same.

It's still incredibly easy to figure out if you observe your opponent and see that their cards are arranged in certain patterns every single turn. Even if the camera didn't point out to you, it's still incredibly easy for Yumeko to figure out since it's not exactly a well hidden cheat.
>>
>>160499887
>not every game is the same and not everyone cheats the same
Actually every game is the same in the sense that halfway you have that stupid twist
>you were cheating all along and all characters noticed easily using hints that were never displayed to the reader

Think Sherlock Holmes solving the murder by randomly finding the culprit's fingerprints offscreen.

Princess Principal need higher IQ to be quite honest. Most people won't notice that Ange is the real princess while the current princess is just a fake. Kakegurui spelled out how they cheat and win every single time. If they still can't get it, they better stick with low IQ show like recreator where you get huge infodump from meteora at least twice every EP and a further recap episode with the same infodump after 1cour

>>160494052
This show is pretentious as hell.
>>
>>160504914
Why won't you explain to us why?
>>
>>160496428
It doesnt allow you to manipulate the game one-hundred percent and win or lose as you see fit, like in the movies, but it is a real skill that can allow you to flip the advantage to your side rather than the casino's.

Theres a reason you get a blanket ban from all casinos (or atleast all of them that share the same black book) if they suspect you're doing it.
>>
>>160504914
Kinda, but most importantly it's just shit
>>
>>160504914
Everyone who uses that word is a massive retard.
>>
Isn't this poker game fixed against players with lesser debts? Since value of chips depends on a player's total debt, the player with the biggest debt starts the game on first place. Moreover, since the end result of the game is just swapping debts, the player with the smallest debt cannot win anything, they can only break even or lose even more money. Why would less poor servants join the game and what did Kiwatani hope for?
>>
>>160502398
Why should I stay away from my only source of income though
>>
How do Japanese do this? I consider myself a maths genius, but even I wouldn't be able to calculate four such numbers on the fly and yet characters from gambling anime do it all the time.
>>
>>160494353
And yet the best gambling show has zero cheaters, except Toki.
>>
>>160505120
Not entirely true. First place gets their debt cleared and if you get chips from people with more debts, you could even make money.

Also, lower debt means your chips are cheaper and that's kind of an advantage I guess?
>>
>>160505407
By being not real
>>
>>160504914
How? I could understand if someone called Kaiji pretentious, since that manga at least has a message and plenty of social commentary. I think it's well done and it's not pretentious, but I could see it at least, but Kakegurui? It's just a ridiculous setting to have preposterous games one after another with over the top expressions and pretty girls.
>>
>>160505407
Maybe the dealer chick has a calculator.
>>
>>160505742
jazz opening, fancy visuals and cheap use of gambling themes to appear sophisticated
>>
>>160505120
There's an additional rule that says that if the player who had the smallest debt wins the game, he gets to clear all of it. Of course it's not a balanced game, it wasn't mean to be. The groups are chosen by the student council, so it's not like the players knew beforehand whether they'd be starting 1st or 4th on the table, or how big was the risk.
>>
>>160505407
by using common core
>>
>>160505943
That's not pretentiousness that's just a stylistic choice
Or do you think such a style is inherently pretentious? Why?
>>
>>160494780
>>160495797
Are you people delusional? Casinos don't have to rig or cheat, the games themselves are designed with a certain % edge. (And if a casino earns money from games beyond that % over a statistically significant time, they get investigated for fraud)
>>
>>160506076
It's like you've never watched an action movie before. Casinos are all backed by the mafia and yakuza, of course they fucking cheat
>>
>>160506050
I don't think it's inherently pretentious but it's on the sophisticated side, so if you're gonna use fancy stuff then you better own up to it and actually be smart.
It's like Mirai Nikki trying to look good with its opening but you know it's just bait
>>
>>160505943
>cheap use of gambling themes to appear sophisticated
There's a girl with a death wish masturbating in the toilet while playing Russian roulette. What the fuck are you on about? And how is gambling sophisticated in any way? It's a degenerate addiction that has been banned outlawed constantly throughout history and treated on par with alcoholism. There is nothing deep about it.
>>
>>160496418

>>
>>160506431
How is the opening sophisticated in any way, shape or form? It's just a bunch of sexual imagery backed by a bunch of monkeys hitting strings and a girl with a cute voice singing lewdly
>>
>>160506431
Do you really look at this and think the studio is trying to trick you into thinking it's anything more than fun pandering? God forbid we get some artistry in this artistic medium.
>>
>>160494147
You bet on a per chip basis; if someone raises 2 chips, then you also have to raise 2 chips. It doesn't matter which chips you use, rule wise. However, each chip has a monetary value equal to 1/10 the original owner's debt. This value only matters when deciding the scoring. The winner is decided by whoever has the highest monetary value in chips at the end. So, the strategy is to always gamble with the chips that hold the least value while attempting to horde the higher value chips. You could also bluff your opponent by betting higher value chips.
>>
>>160506456
Objectively, it is. But Kakegurui plays up the "so mysterious, cool and edgy" part of gambling. Jabami is a cool bad girl who annihilates the villains, frees weak people, never faces consequences (300M debt? Just play cat in one scene, next episode it'll be cleared up, no sweat)

It's SO COOL gambling, but it's not even gambling in the first place so it's just the author telling the reader to like his shitty crazy girls

>>160506846
Fair enough, but it fails at that. Everyone making crazy smug faces while asspulling their victory without any logic is just annoying (for me). And it's not like the tricks and games are crazy or fun themselves (in which case I'd give it a pass). They're all bland and boring.
>>
>>160506746
She's constantly portrayed as a freak and the other characters explicitly say as much. They called her crazy yet again in this week's episode. The "gurui" part in the title comes from 狂う - going mad.

I can't think of any other main character in a gambling manga that was presented in a more negative way from the get go. Usually they are defined as "genius" or "legendary". Here the adjective is "crazy". She gets herself into situations that can easily end badly for her and relies on luck to save her, and the reason she doesn't mind is not because she always has a plan, but because she's insane. In the next bet she'll have a 50/50 chance of being murdered and survives on luck alone. She's not a role model, she's a fun character to watch with a hot JK body on top of it.
>>
>>160498137
>couldn't be guessed by the watcher

>>
>>160507475
They call her crazy but she's still in a position of power, helping people with debts, giving them advices, having cool glowing eyes, shots to make her look cool and all these power fantasy things.
Sure, MC will always look different/better from scrubs, but usually not to that extent. Or you'd add other things for balance, but not here, Jabami is literally 10/10 in every domain. She'll score a 98/100 singing in the next few episodes.

>>160507625
It's not hard to tell there's a cheat since everyone is cheating in this fucking school. But it's impossible to tell that the cards have a mark to differenciate them that fades after 3 minutes and by memorizing these 12 marks plus the location of the 100 cards in these 3 minutes you can make perfect pairs with no problem.
The game sucks in the first place. Memorize where the cards are. WOW SUCH GAMBLING

It's a manga about bullies being taken down one after the other. The more conceited they are the more fun it is when they are broken, and the expressions make it extra enjoyable. If you can't enjoy such a simple concept then this simply is not for you. But don't call it pretentious just because you don't like it and expect others to take that criticism seriously.

The games are not detective stories where the clues are there for the reader to put together. The fun is in trying to anticipate what the author will come up with to turn the tables in favor of the protagonist. In the debt swapping game, it was a foregone conclusion that the guy had to lose, since he had been introduced as a rapist. He explained his own cheating scheme declaring the wrong debt right at the start, so the concept was already out there. As the game progresses, you see all the numbers and juggle them in your head, trying to imagine what the characters are going to do, until the last move, where it becomes clear that either Yumeko has a bullshit way of getting double 10s in the last hand, or they are using some other fundamental way of rigging the game. If you think outside of the box it's definitely possible to predict what comes next, and it's not an asspull in any way.
>>
>>160507296

The OP is great and not just random fanservice. It has a lot of symbolism and detail pertaining to the story and characters. Cheating is the only skill in gambling because all skills in gambling are banned (considered cheating).

I want to see the reverse of that, Yumeko losing.

Yumeko gambling on her ovulation day with her virginity on the line, she wouldn't be able to resist the high-stakes, not only of the gambling, but also the gamble of whether she gets knocked up and has to be a submissive housewife for the rest of her life per the bet. Two gambles in one.

Yumeko is bat-shit crazy, but I have this strong feeling that she's the kind of woman that would be a great mother in the end.

I see what this is about now.

I really don't think this series is for you then. What I love about Kakegurui is that the games are generally grounded (at least the best ones in the series) where I could see myself grabbing some friends to play the same games.

If you don't enjoy the games they play, then you're not going to enjoy the series. I feel like the crux of the issue is that you're letting your distaste for the show and its popularity get to you. Hence you calling the show pretentious with a terribly poor reason why.

>Ethically
You're exploiting the game's setup outside of the intended rule set to gain an advantage. Note: Casinos also do this by adding decks or reshuffling cards, which helps keep their odds of winning high

>Legally
It's not illegal as long as you aren't using a device to help you. However, it's perfectly acceptable for the casino to use devices to mess with the deck

Bottom line though is the casino is trying to screw you over, and the law sides with them to keep the tax revenue flowing. Card counting helps you win which is why they hate it

Vegas anon here. While ofc shit is exaggerated, its not far off. There are countless ways to cheat when you gamble and, considering the authorities/big brother aren't breathing down your neck in the school (I think? I only read to the end of the dagger game portion of the manga), its a HUNDRED times easier to cheat AND to get away with it even if you get caught.

And there are many times in the series they let it all settle down to a luck based moment. Because that's the thrill of the series! Our MC is quite the gal.

Plus, for most of the world (especially Japan, since I think it's illegal to bet money on even a coin toss there), people know little about gambling outside of slot machines and simple card games. So this series is a pretty big deal in Japan.... Based on my own assumptions. Idfk how they're actually taking the series.
But being able to learn about the games AND ways people have cheated in the past, will forever interest me.

>and ngl it feels pretty rad when i already know a trick to a game in the show

I'm surprised that actually bothered Hiryuu, they've been around a long time at this point and as far as I can remember have always firmly been in the "slower but pretty decent subs" category, not speed subbers. Yeah the people bitching about that are retarded faggots but that's not new, entitled faggot fans have been a thing since forced patience went away with the arrival of internet distribution rather then having to get bootlegs with shit subs on badly degraded 5th gen VHS like in the old days.

Yeah, as someone who has actually made some money in online gambling back in the early 00s, people comparing this shit to casinos are being silly. Casinos are basically slightly legitimized, extra professional organized crime HQs. Of course there the house is always ruthlessly aiming for the (slightly) positive win ratio and will stamp down on any advantage any player can give themselves over the house's preferred odds. But that's why games in the wild wider world are way more interesting and potentially profitable, and that includes seeking every advantage possible, as well as sometimes just indulging in the thrill of pure luck with no over arching plan behind it. It's a different thing.

Other anon is totally right, no they don't dumbfuck, because they don't need to. Learn to probability. Good Casinos are playing the long game with far more capital then any player, and they have the capability to tune the odds and payouts very, very precisely in terms of averages. The house will lose in streaks due to chance, but over weeks, months and years of many players the core probability will always play out in the end. Casinos make bank on humans mostly being shit at probability and statistics. Like you are.

Yep, exactly.
I mean, a lot of y'all forget they're just rich kids in a school with seemingly few rules outside of their own hiarchy. They can make up their own games or their own house rules and there isn't anything that could really stop them.

And typically, many people that find the series boring really haven't gambled before... Because letting luck just do its thing? Thats a damn good thrill and I honestly understand the weird euphoria the MC gets. Its over dramatic bc hey, fan service, but theres a good rush there man.

Especially without good 'ol big brother breathing down your neck.

I think what some anons hate about the series is that it's mainly about psychology, not clues. Like, they're hoping for some mystery detective thing in "gambling" form, I think some anon earlier even mentioned Sherlock Holmes specifically. They want a set of clues, and you can see how they're put together, and it yields the logical result. And that can make for an ok show too, but it's not what this one is about. Here it's mostly a psychological fight, the fun is either sympathizing with the thrill, just liking the ride, or else trying to compete with the AUTHOR and get inside his head and guess what crazy shit he's going to have the MC pull this time. Usually it's possible to make an educated guess, but there's no assurances ever because that's gambling.

Probably a lot of people will hate that in a show though because they hate that IRL too.

I couldn't have said it better myself! That's exactly how I've seen many people look for in the series.

But the thing is, the series as a whole is one big gamble. You don't know whats going to happen. Will it be a good outcome or a bad one? Will someone win or lose? The whole series, while still educating you and giving you proper build-up, is still a total gamble and will often leave you with something expected.
>I say this but again I only read a to maybe the start of the Russian Roulette arc

A series with mystery and clues is fine. But really, that's not what will happen. I almost feel the series as a whole is trying to convey that uncertainty you feel when you gamble... Trying to express that thrill to the people that just haven't gambled before.

Just fucking hell I love this series.
>>
>>160532261
And just gotta keep in mind how most of the world just... Doesn't gamble. So this new thrill for a lot of people, even if it isn't the exact same thrill, is a new feeling. And a lot of people just aren't okay with that new feeling.

>I kinda really want to know how Japan is reacting to the series... Because, last I checked, gambling IS illegal...
Yeah it's """illegal""" but of course enterprising businessmen have found plenty of ways around that. Mainly because the "gambling laws" are based around the core concept of money being the prize, or some close-enough-direct-equivalent. But that can leave room for indirection layers between what you win and what the ultimate payout is. Pachinko parlors are HUGE in Japan, and you "only win Pachinko balls". They aren't allowed to leave the premises even. But those balls can be exchanged for prizes or even further tokens, and those in turn can be traded for cash at places down the street that are DEFINITELY TOTALLY INDEPENDENT AND JUST HAPPEN TO BE THERE NO ILLEGAL MONEY GAMBLING HERE! Seriously look up pachinko it's crazy.

Of course, alternatively and even more widely, the law leaves open satisfying normies' gambling urge in a weaker lower stakes way by just not having money up for grabs at all. Think about all those F2P mobege gacha games, fundamentally that's 100% all gambling, except the prize is waifus. Perfectly legal, still very profitable. Obviously it lacks the thrill of truly having direct money on the table, but it might prime the pump a bit so to speak.

>I almost feel the series as a whole is trying to convey that uncertainty you feel when you gamble...
What uncertainty can be in the Russian roulette? You can't loose in this mazafaka game even if you're unluckiest pidr in whole universe.
>>
I want to gamble with Yumeko. If She wins, I am her slave. If I win, she's my master.
>>
>>160533609

And how is that going to be any fun for her, you selfish pig? At least make it so you have to surgically swap genitals or something.
>>
>>160533580
You are never certain (until the last "bullet") when you will be shot.
Thus, creating uncertainty.

Note I said the series as a whole too. Not just one arc or game.
>>
Are they going to play Russian Roulette?

I can understand this, but what I don't get is: why did beta-kun comply with that? Technically the 260 mil were his, he could have kept the money or even could've given it to his waifu to clear off her debt.

Letting the blond whore getting the 260 mil back isn't being honest, it's plain dumb.
>>
>>160533966
You got it wrong. That's not Mary's money. Mary and Yumeko were working together. It belongs to both of them, and Suzui gave it back to both of them. You'll see it next episode.
>>
>>160533966
He didn't want his rep ruined on NVG.
Why does anything happen? Mary expressed her concerns in the fucking scene before she got it back. He also didn't need to clear off waifu debt as it went from a lot to virtually nothing.
>>160534125
No he doesn't and no he won't as it was cleared up this episode.
>>
I don't understand gambling or what they're talking about half of the time but I like this show. The blond girl is cute.
>>
>>160534227
She didn't declare all of her debt, so I was pretty sure she's still had a huge debt. My guess would be that the profit they earned would go to pay that, but it didn't.
>>
>>160534227
>No he doesn't and no he won't as it was cleared up this episode.
Next episode you'll see Suzui telling Mary that's not her money. Mary agrees and actually gives the whole thing to Yumeko. That's how it happened in the manga.
>>
>>160534292
Good to know. It pissed me off at how dumb beta-kun was for giving the check back like it was nothing.
>>
>>160534279
>it didn't.
You're jumping to conclusions.
>>
>>160534279
yes disregard that. i suck cock. no sleep.
>>160534292
point being that it was Suzui's money and no one else's. him being a retard doesn't change that fact. whatever happens later isn't really relevant.
>>
>>160494052
It's weird to go all out on the games and then throw it all out of the window because everyone is cheating anyways.
>>
>>160531665
>Plus, for most of the world (especially Japan, since I think it's illegal to bet money on even a coin toss there), people know little about gambling outside of slot machines and simple card games. So this series is a pretty big deal in Japan

You do know that this isn't the first ever series in the Japan to have gambling as a theme right?
>>
>>160532401
CCM.
Hiryuu did a few episodes but apparently dropped the show?

This is a school for training the social elite.

Sons and daughters of politicians and mega-rich CEOs.

So of course learning how to cheat and rig systems in their favor is an invaluable tool.

He doesn't tell her. He just reacts surprised when the way she talks about it is as though it's hers. She then gives it to Yumeko, saying she doesn't want to owe Yumeko anything.
>>
>>160537567
He says enough that Mary gets what he's getting at.

Too bad I don't feel the thrill since the result is predictable and the main character has luck plot armour. the stakes barely matter too because everyone is rich and the consequences can just be hand waved.

Yeah, after sleeping and re-reading my shit, I noticed how stupid that was. Countless series that at least have gambling in them come to mind immediately.. A bunch of manga too.

Just scrap that portion of my talk. Haha, oops... Although, I'm not positive if there's been a series JUST on the topic of gambling? But I'm probably wrong there.
