That's the biggest problem I have with it, but the entire manga is pretty mediocre compared to the anime, and that epilogue was shit

The difference is Shinji in EoE arrives to find Asuka utterly destroyed, he thought his world had already ended and then lost a last additional bit of hope he didn't know he still had. Manga Shinji fighting the MPE is fun and it's a more believable take on it than the N64 game, but doesn't have the same gravitas, Shinji's not in a position to realistically wish for the end of days. And resets are fucking weak.
