Give the characters who aren't Kumiko and Reina something to do. Holy fuck Hazuki and Sapphire are USELESS. They contribute NOTHING. Even Kumiko was just there pointlessly during that whole drama with that autismo clarinet girl, awkwardly standing around during a lot of shit that had nothing to do with her, but at least she's charming and has some role. The other girls, why are they still here?

Also the second season took so long to get going with that drama between what's her name and clarinet slut. It took four episodes and honestly the clarinet girl was so bland and wishy washy that there was no reason to care about her. Worst of all, this was built up as some sort of epic dramabomb that destroyed the entire band club, with people being hesitant to talk about it as though they had witnessed war crimes, and the girl who caused it is so incredibly divisive you think she's going to be some kind of Hitler.

But then the truth comes out and it was basically a misunderstanding, the "bad guy" is the most sweet and likable character in the show, they were too afraid to make anyone a bitch so nobody actually did anything wrong and it was just a retarded miscommunication that makes no sense and the affected parties were basically just three people? Fucking weak.

S1 was believable enough. S2 dropped the ball with the Mizore subplot and some of the Asuka subplot was badly executed as well. S1 is still my favorite anime in the past 10 years, easily.

She doesn't have to solve it but then she was there for large segments of it where she just stood around like a third wheel because they decided to put her in these problems that have nothing to do with her because she's the MC. Kumiko should have just sat out 90% of that first arc, and that arc should have been moved around and rewritten so maybe somebody could have actually been wrong and it has proper gravitas and scale rather than just being about some crying autist.

When you get beyond the yuri memes and all that the problem with S2 was that it set itself up immediately as exploring this mysterious event that happened in the past that basically gave everybody who was around for it PTSD and was the most cataclysmic thing to ever fucking happen to that school and the girl who started it was so heinous that her best friend literally started vomiting any time she saw her because she was getting triggered so hard, Asuka was involved, etc.

And then it was nothing, it was fucking nothing.

I wouldn't call her a villain either. She was far too sweet and nice. But that just made the whole thing sillier because what's-her-name LITERALLY VOMITED just from seeing her face because she was so traumatized, and then you actually meet the girl and she is so completely innocent and just swell. It was dumb.

What I'm saying is that they shouldn't have had that as the first arc of the season, that went on for a third of it and basically just came out to nothing and revolved so much around such a small time dull character like Oboe. They needed to have some balls and just totally rewrite that shit. It's not like they're 100% dedicated to going 1:1 with the source material either, so they could have easily done so.

There were things I liked about Euphonium S2, but they took the wind out of their own sails by immediately revealing the backstory behind such a hugely influential and mysterious event and then having it be so underwhelming and making that event look so small time because of the focus on that ball-headed autist. It could have been, and should have been, so much more.

This is like if nobody knew what WW2 had started over to this day and then you found out it was because Churchill spiked the punch at Hitler's party and he was holding a grudge and everyone was a swell guy and they'd have all made up if they'd just sat down together.

She really was not though. She was boring and the focus on her made what should have been an important event feel very small. Mizore literally made the season worse.

And instead of focusing on a character who isn't even interesting because she's more interesting than shit characters like Hazuki and Sapphire, I'd rather they just made Hazuki and Sapphire better and if they're going to use Mizore they work her in more organically in a bigger plot more befitting of an important event like the vicious bitchfest that tore the wind ensemble apart to the point where people refuse to even talk about it because it gives them Nam flashbacks.

It was a missed opportunity and Mizore was a large part of why that was.
