Also Ray doesn't overshadow her that much, the author beats the reader over the head how hard Emma pulls the group together and in particular reins Ray in when he gets too nutty. Definitely room for Emma to do more but the balance is better than when Norman was around with all of his wacky keikakus that other smart characters (including Mama herself) uncharacteristically didn't catch onto out of plot convenience.

I'd like for actual deaths to occur but let's be realistic here, the chances he's dead are almost zero, especially when no corpse is presented.

I think that's just your opinion or even your attitude toward the series. I get what you're saying but I didn't get that impression here. The chapter felt like it actually had some weight when I read it. It didn't narrate every one of Emma's thoughts, it showed some of them with expressions, so when people like the visual presentation of the chapter it's not just because it showed creepy faces.

It's all right. One thing I like about her is that she's unpredictable, like an animal, but whenever she gets a chance to act, Norman and Ray ruin everything with their logical shit. The dynamics between Gon and Killua are more balanced.

Looking in the archive I see that we had more than one thread for this chapter this time around. Probably splitting up the discussion a bit, but that's fine. A thread doesn't need to cap to be worth it.

I did appreciate this chapter. Instead of just focusing on "oh no, I'm taking a life!" it gave the scene some worldbuilding/personal impact by connecting it to the religious flower ceremony. Then it asked the question of how "low" they're willing to go just to survive in the world, without spelling it out directly. Felt like the scene was pretty well done.

The plan was to have three perfect scores to sacrifice/eat. Now two have escaped, but they still have one perfect score to offer to their god. Just grab the top scores from the other plantations and you're settled. I mean, I don't think they'd cancel the whole thing just because they lost part of the offering.
