Summary of the preview from the /vg/ thread:
After seeing the state of the world with their own eyes and witnessing how other girls got seriously injured during their first mission, two of the Sentinels quit their duty. Two other girls are too injured to fight anytime soon. Mebuki watches the sea and the destroyed bridge from the Gold Tower's observation deck, which seems to be somewhat like the Marugame castle tower was for Wakaba, when a female priest approaches her. She plainly informs her that there won't be enough time to wait for the injured to recover before their next mission, but their losses will be replaced soon since none of the most capable commander-types are out of commission.

Chapter spoilers 1/2:
Shortly after the two girls quit and two others got injured, four new Sentinels join the team to replace them. Even Mebuki realizes that Sentinels really are nothing more but tools that can be replaced at any time. Meanwhile, the other Sentinels are starting to get used to their duty and form peer groups, one of those is team Mebuki with the other four protags. At lunch, Suzume says that it's scary how the female priest never takes off her mask, not even during lessons. When Miroku and Ayaya join in, Ayaya mentions that the Miroku family is in fact pretty amazing: They "saved the world" back then alongside the Akamine family. It also turns out that Ayaya has been living under pretty strict Taisha control due to her valuable miko powers ever since she was young. She isn't allowed to talk to regular citizens and rarely gets permission to see her parents. Shizuku joins in, so the others try to get her to talk. She says something ominous about her parents and mentions that she went to Shinju-kan Elementary School, where she was in the class next to the one of the Heroes. Mebuki wonders why this dumb autist is ranked 9 among the Sentinels, right behind the commander types, when her actual skills don't seem to be particularly outstanding.

Chapter spoilers 2/2:
Soon, their next mission begins. This time they're supposed to venture deeper into Vertex territory and reach the Chuugoku region. They make it there safely and take samples, but on their way back the usual Stardusts begin to merge into a larger enemy - an imperfect horn-like Vertex. As the Sentinels flee and things get chaotic, Shizuku is devoured by the large Vertex - and rips the thing apart from inside. She has entered some sort of berserk mode and manages to fight off the swarming Stardusts; thanks to her, the mission is a huge success with 0 casualties. Mebuki later learns that Shizuku has two personalities, her usual quiet one and a violent, unruly and extremely skilled one, which is the reason for her unusually high rank.
After the battle, Shizuku didn't change back to her usual personality. She's mean to the others, does whatever she wants and doesn't listen to Mebuki's orders (plus, she refers to herself as "ore" and generally talks like a delinquent), so Mebuki confronts her. The two get into an argument and decide to fight it out: if Shizuku wins she gets to do whatever she wants, if Mebuki wins she'll accept her as the leader. The battle also turns into a bit of a clash of ideologies: Mebuki who wants to be a Hero for the fame and title, and Shizuku who knows that Heroes are just normal girls who are forced to suffer and die, sicne she learned of the fate of the WaSuYus first-hand. In the end, Mebuki wins and Shizuku accepts her. The two manage to make up and respect each other's goals and beliefs.

Also, they managed to fuck up Aya's name a total of 3 times throughout the novel. And they even had Sonoko call Sumi "Sonocchi" in the bonus LN. Seems like Akashiro really needs a break.

I think that's fine for the first few chapters, you've only just met these girls. It's just a side effect of the style of work KuMeYu is, instead of them being happy friends from the beginning they're flawed girls who need to learn the meaning of friendship. There's plenty of time for character development and them becoming good friends who care about each other, I'm sure by the end we'll all love them just as much as the other Yuushas.

This is probably the case. It's easy to look back on stuff after it's happened and it seems better.

Things might feel a bit like a slog right now, given KuMeYu is monthly, but there's a chance things will improve. That said, my first impressions of most of the cast right now are fairly negative in comparison to how they were with the rest early on. This "berserker mode" thing really bothers me and I'm wondering how the hell they're going to justify it.

I really hope so, but they'll have to pick up the pace. Since KuMeYu chapters are 30 pages instead of the usual 15 we're technically at the end of chapter 4 in NoWaYu terms right now, which is around the time the character introductions were almost done and the real plot started to kick in.

That's actually not a love beam but some sort of magic that drags out one's most regret in life. The story is set in Yuyuyui which means that the actual story of Nowayu has long ended before. The beam caused Chikage (and later Wakaba too) to 'recall' the memories of the day she died in Wakaba's arms.

Wouldn't be surprised if that's the case for some of them.

Hell, the parents of the Yuusha, though varying degrees of reluctant or even outraged about the whole Mankai thing and keeping it secret, ultimately went along with it in the end. The grip of the Taisha and dedication to the Shinju is honestly cult-like in some respects. WaSuYu mentioned their word holding more than the Prime Minister's or something, didn't it?

Seems pretty natural that you'd get a few impressionable and young girls who believe this is both a duty and an honor.

I think this has a clear parallel with Tougou's patriotism. It's a commentary on the idea of loyalty to the state or religion, and a display of how friends and the everyday is so much more important. Remember Karin's awesome fight, when she announces she's not going to fight for the Taisha anymore, she's going out to fight as a member of the Hero Club? I think we'll get to see a similar scene in KuMeYu, when they realise what they've been fighting for, Mebuki's desire to succeed, Yumiko's pride for her house, Aya's loyalty to Shinju, etc, all of that is irrelevant, what truly matters is the friends they've built along the way and the precious days they spent together. You could say this is the overarching theme of the YuYuYu series.

I'm actually surprised that Mebuki can interact with other human beings. I expected her to still be a flaming ball of rage that no one would dare get close to, but she was pretty cool especially with how she dealt with the retard duo.

Shizuku was great too, I was in tears once again when she started talking about Gin.

Was reading the kindle screenshots while testing the scanner. The scanner is a flatbed type, couldn't resist buying it for $35. All of the doujins are thin but I have scanning problems on some doujins in which there are pages of the book that use the whole page and makes it difficult to scan the middle most part of the book since it looks warped on the scan. But a scan like this is no problem since the page fits just right before it bends/warps/whatever on the middle part of the book.

Whatever I scan, you guys will have to put up with my sentinel quality scans.
