S2 was shit and goes nowhere with what they established in S1, as usual with KyoAni shows.

I didn't like the first season. I thought it was quite bad. The second season gets even worse in the beginning but ends on a somewhat higher note.

Season 1 was better in general, S2 lacked performances and the drama in it was pretty boring. I didn't think much of S1 either, but S2 was a bit of a drag even while airing. I rather enjoyed the OVA, though.

The first half focuses on a new character that has autism (quite literally), the second half on asuka and her family problems, the entire 2nd season is pure drama wheter good or not forget about music is only drama, even that glasses faggot told the first years to fuck off when they wanted to practice for the next contest because of the drama they had the previous year. Also the yuribait became even worse.
Ribbon chan was the only good thing about the second season.

I never watched the TV show, the movie is nice, my friend who watched both seasons said it cut a lot but also that it left the last two episodes intact entirely

I'm watching S2 right now because the BDs just got translated so why not.
Don't even remember S1, but it was probably better I think.

I felt that S2 had higher peaks, but it wasn't very consistent like S1.

The second season is pretty damn good, though it has some faults to it. Reina devolves as a character but in return best girl Asuka gets more time in the spotlight. Still plenty of yuri bait, but not nearly as bad as the first season was about it. I still liked it a lot though, even if Reina became pants-on-head retarded because everything else made up for her bullshit.
