I went into the anime completely blind and I expected it to end on 2-cour, but was really surprised that the show ran for two years.
I know jackshit about space programs and organizations and that most likely helped to keep me amused seeing the whole astronaut training program and Hibito's situation later on.
I absolutely adored the first 40 episodes with Mutta and I think it (understandably) lost a little of its charm when they switched to Hibito, but it was a great ride overall.

For me it lost a lot of entertainment value when they switched to Hibito, but that I don't think it was bad. I wouldn't say it was exactly fun, but I think the whole PTSD thing was fairly well done. Even more so when you take into consideration that this medium tends to reduce PTSD as some kind of temporary depression (for the lack of better expression). It might've not been as entertaining as the first part with Mutta, but it certainly was worth the time.
