I got to say Knight and Magic anime really surprised me. I read the manga adaptation of novel and wasnt really impressed, though found the story and characters ok. Anime has major concerns with speed train pacing rushing through chapters, but once the main point of it - mecha, appears: it turns simply superb. Surprisingly exciting and energizing, probably because anime managed so vividly portray obsession of MC with mecha so his mood transmits to viewer.

The girls are good but that's not the only reason. The writing is actually pretty good considering who is behind it, the aesthetics and atmosphere are nice, and it's actually got spy stuff instead of being a full-on action series. The real only difference is that they fight/act on scene instead of singing and dancing.

There was never good japanese spy anime. Night Raid, Joker Game, this - all suffer from the same issues. Its hard to say why japanese spy genre writing is so shit, while in comparision their murder detective genre is pretty good.

In fact, Love Live is development of Sunrises own "genrse" that was started with Mai Hime/Otome and Idolmaster Xenoglisia. Which, indeed had "mahou shoujos" but has zero relation to Mahou Shoujo genre as whole and Studio 8 just continued what it did best by making "mai otome/xenoglosia" without actual fighting - LL.

LL, just like K-On pretty much created own subgenre at this point and many trying to emulate it (which is important, since before that the idol shows had Im@s as prototype/goal, but LL changed that)

What exactly are you expecting from this series in terms of writing? Certain things like the events in episode 3 might have been predictable, but you can't really tell where this anime is going to end up.
The ambitions of Princess is definitely worth sticking around for considering how much deception and violence will be required to get them from point A to point B. If it was just Ange and co. doing random spy work every episode I would have agreed, but there is an actual goal here.

At least Made in Abyss is better than LWA, so despite its mainstream popularity being /v/ thing, it has actually good manga as base and based Kinema Citrus animating it - which is one of the members of Gentlemens Anime Tea Club along with KyoAni, Godakobo and PA Works.
