Toonami nostalgia is the only reason people still think it's a good series.

I felt the same way about the Saint Beasts arc. Just skim through the manga chapters for those episodes and then watch the Dark Tournament arc.

I had fun with the females being cute, especially oneesan, Enma's goddamn voice, weakling of the group being really manly, random fucking pokemon phoenix, grumpy sensei and all that overall SoL. The anime is cute in the semi retro way, but if it's not that attractive for you, you could always speedread the manga.
