A lot of romances tend to end without the kiss, which can be pretty fucking annoying, though not always necessary. I can understand not putting so much dependence on the physical act, since it is just that. The deeper meaning can be gleamed from their words and more meaningful actions.

It needed a happy ending, but the ending was so rushed and lazily done it sucked.

Cultural differences, the west mostly a complete start to end story, Japan prefers a part of the life of someone, without a clear ending. As soon as you accept that, Japanese endings are much better. Clear but not anime example is Yakuza Apocalypse that I saw recently.


Anime also has the problem of adapting something that is still going on.

Oh I'm well aware of that. But even out of the ones that's aren't ended prematurely (I'm thinking mostly anime originals), there's a lot of examples of bittersweet endings. (like GC, even if it was done shit).

In Western media this is almost unheard of. Main characters almost never die, and the one of the main reasons for GoT's huge success is the author breaks this trope.
