Then assume her father has Anglo/American ancestry. Her origins, birth wise amounts to the the United States of America and Germany. American is definitely an ethnicity, but it isn't a race. You couldn't classify certain genetic codes as being highly American, unless they were native. This matters little. Asuka is on a cultural level a German. She's not distinctly American in anyway and we never hear her speak English.
