People in Death Note have the time and date they're going to die predetermined, floating above their heads. Even if you write down that they die after that date, they still die when they were always going to.

Only the death note can cause a premature death.
If you write someones name in the note with a specific time of death and then kill them before that time, then their predetermined lifespan would already reflect your murder and rule LVII would apply.

Movie L used this rule and wrote his own name in the book which made him survive Light and defeat him. In the end he died peacefully 23 days afterwards but solved the case.
