Can a death written in a Death Note be unfulfilled due to a premature death? Like, let's say Light wrote that some child molester would die of a heart attack a month from then, but two weeks before some guys murdered the dude. Is that possible?

If not, why didn't Light simply write his own name into the book, plan out a peaceful death, and schedule it like 70 years in the future so he could be basically immortal?
>>
>>160127344
if Light rights down a name, the person will always die of a heart attack or a specified cause. Nothing else will kill them since the Death Note manipulates the future to an extent essentially. If Light wants a criminal to have a heart attack, by Death God their gonna have that heart attack.
>>
>>160127344
Nah the Death Note can't be used to extend someone's lifespan
>>
>>160127344
One of the rules from word of god is that a death written in the death note cannot extend further than 6 months from the day it is written.
>>
>>160127498
>>160127508
It doesn't need to necessarily extend it, just plan it. Maybe he can do a more conservative estimate of 50 years, or choose to kill himself when he's in his 40's.

Either way he'd be immortal til then, and need not concern himself with L and co.

No.
>How to Use: LVII

>In the Death Note, you cannot set the death date longer than the victim's original life span. Even if the victim's death is set in the Death Note beyond his/her original life span, the victim will die before the set time.
>>
>>160127616
No, it cannot be used to extend someone's lifetime. For example, if you say you die of a heart attack in 10 minutes, you can still shoot yourself in the head and die before then.
>>
>>160127712
So this means you can't write a "dies in 2 days" death when a person's lifespan is running out tomorrow. But what if it isn't running out before the written death? Can you make the person with your own hands before what's written?
>>
>>160127498
It seems I forgot how everyone in Death Note has a fixed life-span that can't be delayed. Never mind this then.
>>
>>160127712
>person has 50 years remaining
>die in 49 years 10 months of heart attack while sleeping
>never fear death for next 49 years
That's the jist of OP's query
>>
>>160127344
It's explicitly explained many times the death will automatically happen in a certain time (I think it was a couple months?), you can't put it farther in the future than that
>>
>>160127895
I just read the rules online and there's no explicit explanation like that
>>
>>160127895
Unless you are a Shinigami and sacrifice yourself.
>>
People in Death Note have the time and date they're going to die predetermined, floating above their heads. Even if you write down that they die after that date, they still die when they were always going to.
>>
>>160127828
>So this means you can't write a "dies in 2 days" death when a person's lifespan is running out tomorrow.
Correct.

>But what if it isn't running out before the written death? Can you make the person with your own hands before what's written?
Only the death note can cause a premature death.
If you write someones name in the note with a specific time of death and then kill them before that time, then their predetermined lifespan would already reflect your murder and rule LVII would apply.

>>160127887
>How to Use: XXVII
>But the Death Note can only operate within 23 days (in the human calendar). This is called the 23 day rule.
You can't set a time of death longer than 23 days. The only exception is:
>How to Use: XXVIII
>If you write die of disease like before with a specific disease's name, but without a specific time, if it takes more than 24 days for the human to die the 23 day rule will not take effect and the human will die at an adequate time depending on the disease.

>>160127947
>>
>>160127988
What if you write "dies in 2 days" and then write "dies tomorrow" in another notebook?
>>
>>160128065
>How to Use: XV

>1. When the same name is written on more than two Death Notes, the note which was first filled in will take effect, regardless of the time of death.
>2. If writing the same name on more than two Death Notes is completed within a .6 seconds [NOTE: although it says this in the Death Note rule pages, it is said in How to Read 13 that it is actually 0.06 seconds], it is regarded as simultaneous; the Death Note will not take effect and the individual written will not die.

>>160127988
lel

>X died of FULL BLOWN AIDS

now what
>>
>>160128127
>the 23 day rule will not take effect and the human will die at an adequate time depending on the disease.
They'll probably die in however long AIDS fags used to before medication was invented.
>>
>>160128170
Could doctors keep a DN disease victim alive an indefinite amount of time, so long as they eventually do die? An "adequate time" can mean anything--one could fight cancer for 7 years and die and that'd be adequate for the disease.
>>
>>160128388
I would guess that medicine would be useless, but it is never directly addressed in the rules.
>>
>>160127887
If you had 50 years remaining then you wouldn't have to fear death until then anyway. You just shorted yourself by two months by being a fucking retard.
>>
>>160127344
>>160127988
>>But the Death Note can only operate within 23 days (in the human calendar). This is called the 23 day rule

Movie L used this rule and wrote his own name in the book which made him survive Light and defeat him. In the end he died peacefully 23 days afterwards but solved the case.

What would happen if someone with Shinigami eyes saw someone's lifespan (like, let's say, 15 more years) and then shot them in the face immediately. What then?
