Bokutachi ga Yarimashita. Shit's good, man. Can't wait til I hit Volume 4 and the scans literally double in quality.
>>
Since there is no paste in the OP...

My last system's PSU literally shorted and fried everything in it, including all my hard disks and only sparing my SSD. Fortunately, I am paranoid enough that I have all my scanning and PSDs backed up in two other locations, but ALL my fonts for Photoshop are lost. I can't even remember all the ones I used in my last project, but it was based upon some copypasta image.

Has anyone gone an made a pack of fonts?
>>
>>160114517
Set it to "Replace".
>>
>>160116240
Not him, but while "Content Aware" is usually best, "Proximity Match" can do wonders for cleaning where "Content Aware" will try to incorporate unwanted details.
>>
When dealing with page sizes, do you bother keeping both width and height consistent between all pages, or do you just go with one of the two dimensions, having the other be whatever?
>>
>>160116479
I'd rather have it be consistent desu
>>
>>160116479
Only one of them needs to be, if you try for both you either have to be anal about cropping at the possible expense of quality or stretch the image in some way.
>>
>>160116479
For my scans, I usually stick for standard height, with varying width. I also apply a downscale of 600dpi, so the difference is negligible at that level.

I dislike distorting the portions of the image if possible, and I already crop them to the pixel at 1200dpi as it is.

Why are scanlation uploads such a clusterfuck?
None of them use the same method.
One group will do the first few chapters then drop it and someone else will pick it up. The first scanlator's webpage will disappear with the download links. So you have to rip them from the host that they uploaded to but none of them offer straight downloads so you have to write srcips to grab all the pages.

What's worse? A translatorfag who needs constant proofreading on his lines because they sound too awkward or a translatorfag who gives you an incoherent script? Because I hate both.

Oh and I hate translatorfags who dont release the work after a month and doesn't give a reason why.
>>
For anyone that runs as a one-man team, what's your workflow like? For translating I have text documents with an English script, Japanese script (important because I'm not fluent and need like 6 sites to piece together kanji and make the translations not retarded, etc), quick reference for names and places, and TL notes on hand. Then I have all the pages for the current chapter one in GIMP to work through.

Do they now? I don't really know that they care too much. But in hentai, handwriting really saves you a lot of time with all the moans and sfx, I think.
>>
>>160116387
Ah, noted... I usualy ctrl+z and strike it a few times until it stops pulling those random bits from elsewhere, haha.
>>
>>160125686
I usually write out a script because I occasionally get TS help. I'll go straight to English for maybe 85%, and transcribe the Japanese for the rest that I either am not confident on my rendering or think I'll change my mind on my initial English attempt. I find I rewrite a lot (still) because I tend to be more literal first pass.

I generally rotate and level, text clean and then typeset in batches because, again, if I get help I can offload a whole chapter at some complete stage of processing.

And you're making your life more difficult if you are typesetting in GIMP, it's text handling is even worse than PS, which really isn't great at it. I really wish there was something better for lettering.

>>160125769
Kanjitomo isn't a silver bullet, it is biased towards looking for jukugo using jouyou kanji and will stubbornly insist on an incorrect match 10%-20% of the time depending on the scan quailty and how complex the character is.
>>
>>160126226

At the risk of inviting shitposters, what constitutes a "good group" in /a/'s opinion? Usually I hear
>no drama

But quality is subjective and people often have standards for cleaning/redrawing that focus on microscopic detail. And given the vast number of groups out there, I would say the majority of them have no visible drama simply because they aren't heard of.

Just make an IRC room or Discord server and coordinate through there. Then release under the name /a/nonymous and that's it. That's how I do it and there's no drama. In one project it'es just me and a translator. That's it. In another one it's me, 4 other typesetters, 3 translators, 2 proofreaders and 2 redrawers. Maybe manga that are scanlated by more than one group, or are quickly up to date with the Japanese release, I don't know.

>>160138884
And funnily enough, it doesn't get popular in the west until it's scanlated...

I would seriously love some addon or anything like it that could let you group fonts in photoshop. I have way too many and I tend to forget the names, it's a pain in the ass to go checking between the hundreds of regular fonts and the different manga fonts.

I've never used the pen with shapes before. I generally just stroke the path with the brush to redraw lines that are supposed to be "perfect", shit that was originally drawn with a ruler or is supposed to be very precise.

I tend to avoid using the pen nowadays because in many cases it can end up looking unnatural. I prefer to just redraw with the brush tool, adding some minimal imperfections that make it fit better with the original art.

Photoshop CC has the Libraries panel but I think you need a legit copy because it works with the cloud or something. I get by with the recently used fonts from the drop down font menu anyway.
>>
>>160139002
you can add fonts for typesetting as favorite and filter them by clicking on the star in the font menu
>>
>>160139153
I was asking about pen tool since I remember an anon here suggesting shape over path because it blends better with mangaka's art or something but can't find right now in archives. How do you deal with curves if you're only using brush tool, by the way?
>>
>>160139333
For curves, I generally lay down a very thin line with the pen tool and then go over it with the appropriate brush size. Again, depends on how it looks in the original drawing, sometimes I just use the pen.
>>

Teach people Japanese by slowing changing words in the translation to romaji, then to romaji with characters in parenthesis, and then eventually to characters. I learned a lot of Japanese from playing eroge with text hooker and translation aggregation, it's the same principle.
Or just wait until they come out with language packs for the eventual digital receiver that we'll embed into our brains.

Maybe these niggers should do their own research and pick up series before the scanlation is already 3 years in. When they shit all over the scanlators who created the fanbase in the first place, people tend to not look kindly upon them.

>>160138855
It means they only pick up series when there's already an existing fanbase because they don't want to take risks. "Heavily scanlated" is probably their way of saying "popular enough that if one group drops it another will quickly pick it up."

They wait for a series to become popular thanks to fan effort, buy the licenses, DMCA anyone who tries to scanlate it and take 2 years to catch up with worse quality and shitty localied puns. By then all hype is dead and fans have fucked off from the manga's rotting corpse, then they act all indignant for scanlators "stealing" their money.

it's hard to find something that is squared, rounded and that does not have weird shapes for special characters keeping a sans serif feeling

Avoid Script and Techno categories, they have too weird fonts, you want something that is as much sans serif as possible here or you'll confuse the reader with weird letters and symbols

Their reader is in .NET, it was packed with some dumb protector last time I checked. So you need to make a dump once it's unpacked in the memory. It also spawned several reader processes that debug each other so you need something like Process Hacker to suspend and detach from debugger if you want to attach for some reason. There seem to be some native x86 dlls that probably also perform some decryption but I didn't look too much into it due to lack of time.

I advise you to look at the old tool to get the general idea, it read decryption keys from the local database file and decrypted the books. In the latter versions it looks like they added another layer of encryption on top of the database entries or someshit. The tools that came later used dll hooking which they detected and banned offending users so be careful. Ideally you gotta make a standalone tool that doesn't interact with the reader at all.

https://my.mixtape.moe/irscrn.zip

About example files, they had free books you could "buy".

Good luck and be prepared to play a ban hide and seek with these faggots.
