Pic related, I might give this its own thread but can someone explain to me what the backstory is between Ryuji's dad and Yugi's grandfather? Every summary I've read disagrees and the only English translation I can find is crap.

1. Ryuji's dad wanted to be Yugi's grandfather's student. I've got no clue if he said yes or not.
2. Ryuji's dad challenged Yugi's grandfather to a game. I've got no clue if this game was known to be cursed beforehand, if the game was related to the Millennium Puzzle (e.g. found with it), or if it was a game over the Puzzle which Yugi's grandfather already owned.
3. Ryuji's dad lost the game, ageing him as a result.

My best guess is that #1 is unknowable and irrelevant and that #3 is correct. As for #2, my guess is that Yugi's grandfather already owned the puzzle (how else could he have known about the puzzle?) and that Ryuji's dad picked the game (I know this because it was Ryuji's dad who made the challenge, and the challenger ought to pick the game) but beyond that I don't know if the game was known to be cursed or if it was over the puzzle or not.

The only helpful things I've found online are pic related and that both the Wiki and Wikipedia claim that the game was over the puzzle.

To me it was around ep 104 or so? I mean Aster's duel, cause at that point it went beyond repair by fucking up his personality. Kaito himself becomes Shun by then and we can truly see Yuya forgot everything. Again.
Seriously, he already learned time and place for things during the invasion of Standard, egaos by Yuto wasn't much of a problem by then. When his mom gave him Smile World was the first reset and then Synchro plot got stale and it certainly is where the main problem was cause due to staying there too much, but it was at Xyz that this went to full shit (or the results for past mistakes started appearing), since synchro still had an enjoyable ending.

But damn, they fucked up BIG. Even having to rush stuff, they had about 40 episodes to pull that off. You CAN do a good merchandise-based anime in LESS time and they managed to shit all over it in less time. I'm seriously sad that my biggest enjoyment was laughing at the shit that happened and "YOU STILL TAKE DAMAGE" during that time.

Duel disks are some bullshit. There's this one kinda autistic guy at my local card shop who plays with a DM era duel disk. It's the cringiest fucking thing to watch him standing up at the table while his opponent remains seated, taking forever shoving his unsleeved cards into the holes and slots. I still wished not ALL numbers were on the line. Sure, Yuma loses once a while in Zexal, but he rarely ever loses a duel with high-stakes, cause that would mean Astral would die. It would have been fucking amazing if Yuma had lost Utopia and then have to become a better duelist without him before having to get him back, using other numbers and stuff.

I still like its duels though. Zexal treats its cast well, has some pretty great battles, specially second-half, but first half has some great ones too like Yuma VS III or VS Tron.

Yusaku is Yusei done right.
One of Yusei's problems was that he was supposed to be a stoic, too-cool, abrasive type of character, but he also juggled his constantly preached beliefs in friends and dreams and crap, which just came across as contradictory.
Yusaku is a stoic, too-cool, abrasive son of a bitch who doesn't care about ANYONE, or at least never directly shows it. Whether this makes the end result bland or not, this actually works in his favor as a character.

If anything pic related is the most confusing part of the scene. Kaiba clearly has attacked with Obelisk for game (although to be totally honest I don't quite understand the sound effects) and the opponent's cards are scattered on the ground for some reason (was it the force of the blast? Or did Kaiba raid the guy's deck so that he could get his own cards back?), the guy who lost the duel earlier on in the scene then stands up and rips up what I can only presume to be the card that he lost to the guy who Kaiba just beat (the scan is too poor to tell), but why would he do that? I can think of a bunch of different reasons but none of them really make any sense.
