You're not the only one. It seems like they deliberately try to invoke these feelings in the audience most of the time. Heck, in Monogatari no one but the named characters even have faces or distinct forms at all, in the entire series with few exceptions, like Kanbaru's friend in Hanamonogatari and probably a couple other examples I can't remember. Personally, I like the feeling, it makes me feel a bit nostalgic or melancholic
