Why is 3D often so bad in anime? It's not like the 11s can't make 3D at all, and it can even look nice in some series if they implement it well, even if the 3D model itself is subpar. Is this because anime is usually running on a low budget, and there is a lack of talent in that department in the industry? I actually prefer back when background characters were static gray figures. The weird resolution is because I was forced to scale down the picture due to the large filesize. I've never experienced that a screenshot I took myself was too large to post.
Because they try using 3D to replicate 2D. When a show uses 3D to just look like 3D, it usually looks really good.

it looks bad becuase it doesnt blend together. Its like when youre able to tell what boulder will break in dragonball

Good 3D's expensive as shit, and most anime just doesn't have the budget for that. They can make good 3D though, like with video games.

Cheap and no effort.

It's for cutting corners.

I'd say it's more like the only ones willing to do 3d work for anime are the ones who were too shit to make it into the video game/movie industries.

There's something really jarring about them. For example in OP's image, you can just tell they're 3d models even though they're not moving to give off that 3 dimensional effect. They just look completely out of place for some reason
