How bad do they smell?

Anime shines in longer forms, using real life time as an art tool is a strong point of it. Anime industry put out quality TV shows like Crayon Shin-chan or Lupin the III full of everything including social commentaries the same time as here when the format was mainly used for brainless housewives' love stories. So basically most directors are clever enough to not make it into poor man's cinema, although you can't stop an extra ambitious people from trying to jump higher than their own head.
