Isekai has run out of things to try. We have had plenty of the reincarnated as <object here> such as sword and vending machine. Both were good as they used some common sense, but then their authors started reading Death March and suddenly lost all common sense. One of those authors even commented about Death March so it's no wonder all of a sudden his isekai took a turn for any action serves as an excuse for more leveling up or getting ultra power levels.

I guess these stories with ultra power levels are accepted because the audience has changed its tastes. Starting with SAO and Mahouka, those stories really boosted character luck and powers willy nilly relative to other characters in the story. It became an arms race with all the authors writing more and more outlandishly.

In /a/ it's started with Re;Monster. Someone was dumping the raw of the manga adaptation chapter 1 and there was live translation, lot of people liked it.
Fast forward some days, more chapter is translated, and people starved for more content and the transition to WN begin. During this phase, someone already knowledge-able about WN recommended Mushoku Tensei, and then it got popular to the point of nonstop daily thread for the WN. After this it's getting quite hard to follow, there's shield hero, arifureta and shitton of others.
I browse /a/ regularly during this time but my memory is quite shitty, feels free to correct me.
