A human created by others, and a genius at that. Thus he saw the world as completely ugly because he was already at the top when young. To him, humans were just ants he toyed with. He's also the embodiment of nihilism. He's very sincere when he talks to children because he sees himself in them and they don't have empathy. He pushes them to do atrocious shit like jumping off roofs to make them see his POV of the world, and that POV is so impressive and extreme that he's like another being, an alien.
He also mixed up his and Anna's memories because both of them are just one to him. That's why when he learned the truth he planned to kill himself to let the perfect half live.
