You can only allow one of these two to eat in your restaurant. Choose wisely.

I hope you can make the right decision /a/.

You should never, ever, try to get steak meat from a hard-working muscular creature. The entire point of beef cattle is for them to be as lazy as possible.

Elf. Not even trying to be a contrarian.
>>
>>159965442
>Elf. Not even trying to be a contrarian.
She is so racist that she couldn't accept elven cuisine losing to a "mere" human's creations. And she didn't want to admit the food tasted good, but her plate is empty. It's all "my culture is so much better than yours! Your food is SUPPOSE to be shit!".
>>
>>159965472
That's not racism, that's high elf snobbishness because in most settings high elves are actually straight up superior to plebians humans and orcs and whatnot.
>>
>>159965472
There are some really obnoxious elf haters around here, on /a/ out of all places, that don't hesitate to make shit up, tell half-truths or exaggerate non-matters, so I'll wait patiently until next episode to make up my own mind.

By the way, Lizard"bro" so far has nothing done that warrants this title.

It is one thing to believe your food is better than someone else's, it is entirely another to struggle to complement the chef just because he is human. Yes, she did complement him, but she didn't WANT to.

Why do you think it needs to "matter"? I am just stating facts based on translated novels. Why do you think the truth needed to be blocked if you don't think it matters to you?

Why do you think you don't need to praise the wolf? For that matter, unless you are Finnish, are you sure you want to consider yourself an Elf? Exactly how up your own ass you have to be to think you are more elf than human?
>>
>>159965716
Why would I want to praise the wolf? He's a fucking wolf, he's literally subhuman.

>are you sure you want to consider yourself an Elf?
What the utter shit are you on about? I'm saying that if elves were human then in most settings, humans are wolves - stronger physically but that's it, they're less dextrous and less intelligent than elves.

>Exactly how up your own ass you have to be to think you are more elf than human?
If someone were an elf, then why would they need to be up their own ass to say they're an elf? Are you retarded?
>>
>>159965472

Just finished watching it, I really like how each episode has a theme of some sort. The contrast between how the merchant's son and how the princess saw the restaurant worked great.

I was a bit turned off initially by the episodic side-A/B stories of the show but seeing how they do try to make the stories bounce off each other makes me appreciate it all the more. I hope next episode works the same with the lizard and the elf.
>>
>>159965744
>What the utter shit are you on about? I'm saying that if elves were human then in most settings, humans are wolves - stronger physically but that's it, they're less dextrous and less intelligent than elves.
You are absolutely wrong though. There are absolutely no settings where humans are considered wolves to an Elf. Go ask /tg/. You might be thinking about Vampires, who obviously consider humans food. But not Elves.
>>

Humans: +2 to any stat, to represent their varied nature. Gain an extra feat.
Elves: +2 Intelligence; +2 Dexterity. -2 Constitution. Gain Low-Light vision. Gain extra Spell Penetration or Spell Focus in a school. Proficient with Elven weapons.
Elves are better for being a Wizard in D&D-like settings; Wizards are supreme.

I certainly wouldn't discourage your own fantasies about me. That's your right. But that changes nothing about the elf who couldn't handle her life's view being shattered.
>>
>>159965772

The word "Elf" comes from the old nordic / germanic "Alve"(yes, like LH's Half-Alves) which described a type of fey-ish minor deity. This is what Tolkein based his elves off. Elves were literally gods.

I am not the one who make the insane claim that Elves consider humans the same level as wolves. That is literally not how it ever worked. Unless you are talking about the Fairfolk, who are just evil spirits.
>>

Is it actually from /v/? Pretty sure that's a /tg/ meme.

There is nothing factual about an elf considering humans to be equivalent to wolves.

Completely not how Tolkein actually used the characters, and not here in this franchise either. You are running out of excuses.

>The insane claim that Elves consider humans the same level as wolves
But high elves DO consider mortal men the same level as wolves, if not slugs. In Warhammer the High and Dark elves universally look upon everyone else as basically retards. In TES, Altmer believe themselves the descendents of the gods, and get this - they're right. In D&D, Elves make better Wizards, which make them better characters full-stop. In old nordic and germanic folklore, the Fair Folk weren't fucking evil spirits that's a Christian invention of the same tier as making Loki and Hades literally Satan, they were just their version of nymphs, and certainly looked down on retarded little kids.

>>159965887
>not how Tolkein actually used the characters
Elves were nigh immortal, looked perfect, had great wisdom, certainly more power, had magnanimity enough to just fuck off and leave the world to the little kids, and literally went to heaven at the end of the trilogy. What the fuck are they if not minor gods?
>>
>>159965605

They are immortal? They certainly bleed just fine. And elves are responsible for many fuckups way before humans start taking power. Your ideal of perfection is pretty shallow.
>>

They're near-immortal, not near-invulnerable. They're unaging, the only thing they have to worry about is burning out in something stupid like a million years.

Elves are perceived as a superior race which actually isn't that true if you have a closer look on various settings and some people just can't deal with the mere thought that a fictional race might be better than self-insert humans because of their weak egos.

Elves are treehuggers for some reason, despite them universally being divine bowmen. Why the fuck are they such good archers if they're not actually hunting anything? Do they shoot cherries off trees at three hundred paces for food?
>>
>>159966002
Given their apparent lack of technological innovation, would Elves have been knocked off their perch relatively soon?
>>
>>159966395
Tolkein elves are kind of fucked because when you read it, a lot of the times they sound as if they're not doing a lot of the things you'd normally do to "win" on purpose because that's destiny or something. It's best to not look at them as a normal civilization.
>>
>>159966393
Because vegan archers that don't hunt anything are retarded and actually don't happen a lot in fantasy? Apparently the world-building of isekai shokudou is nothing you should take too seriously. This elf might just be a vegan because the writer wanted to have a vegan episode and thought an elf would somewhat fit because of some stereotypes, not because of careful world-building.

That creature thing, assuming it has halfway decent table manner and can pay the bill.

Seriously, I've seen elves eat next to nothing and talk for hours just taking up table space. So a huge creature with such defined muscle mass will surely eat more and make me better business.

And don't go on about how I can just jack up the price on the elf to make the difference in margin. I got too much honesty for that kind of thing. And historically the businesses that do go that route get eating by competition in a few years as supply ramps up to demand. Remember that first taco stand vendor? Of course not everyone saw him make big money so everyone setup a taco stand, with better structuring based on watching him, then ran him out. That nearly always the case, unless they reach some legendary status and can stay up by popularity alone. But the cooks at those super popular joints are nervous wrecks as everyone hounds them for their over priced food everyday.

I lived long enough to know how to get rich, but not too rich as to ruin myself. Something many need to learn nowadays.

But everyone looks so clean in this anime. The only one that looked bad was the demon girl, after humans treated her like shit for no good reason.

Elves are often depicted as being stagnant, slow to change/advance, or even in decline as a race in a lot of fantasy. Mostly because that's how Tolkien depicted them.

That's why I said Tolkein elves aren't the same as normal civilizations and can't be looked at that way. Their goal isn't to further themselves like normal civilizations or normal living things.
>>
>>159971472
In Tolkeinland, elves voluntarily wasting away is the right thing to do because that's their fate and fighting destiny is stupid. Wasting away is a sign of maturity when the elves do it; it wouldn't be if Gondor did it because they're not fated to be done and they don't have an 'accomplished' role.
>>
>>159971472

And despite prettying it up with words like fate and destiny, its still a decline. And elves being a declining, stagnating race is a theme that was carried over and affected a lot of fantasy works in the decades following. Which was the original point. Tolkien portrayed elves in decline, and a lot of similar fiction used that theme for themselves.

Well he studied for a short time at Harvard, thanks to his family connections. But quickly realized he was just begin groomed to takeover the family business of a pest control empire that actually made most of it money be reselling the chemical to black market weapons dealer. Despite a much older more legitimate history of eating bugs for profit.

He saw the suit he wore every day as a tool of oppression and vowed to go shirtless or even nude when ever he could, to be free in ever sense of the word. His handsome scales got him a good job as a stripper in New York. Every now and then he will wear a dress suit and domino mask to fight his father company which he hates given their involvement in the current Syrian gas attacks.

Don't be mistaken by his great looks. He is a complex and fiercely independent intellectual that likes long walks in the park. And that scare on his heart is from him saving an angry cat. But the scare in his heart is from his abusive and controlling father and his still unresolved love for his family and all living creatures.
>>
>>159971472
Elves were not "wasting away". A sub section of the Elves was fulfilling an ancient promise they made in the First Age by completing their journey to Valinor, a promise that in most of their cases was made by their parents, grandparents, or even older ancestors. There were still many Elves who would remain in Middle Earth because they had never made any promise to leave it, and had become a part of it as much as Men or Dwarves were. It was just the Eldar, those elves who originally agreed to travel to Valinor in the First Age, and their descendants, who left Middle Earth in LotR. And the idea that this was some how them choosing death is laughable. It's them choosing eternity, to stay on middle earth was to forsake eternity, basically choosing to live on earth rather than the kingdom of heaven.
>>
>>159971852
Yeah, but what does that have to do with >>>/pol/
>>
>>159971960
I'm not that guy, I'm correcting some erroneous belief about Tolkien's lore.
>>
>>159971852
The elves in middle earth are leaving because the magic is actively fading away and they can't sustain themselves in that part of the world.
>>
>>159971735
Elves were not "declining" they were "diminished". There is a difference. The elves were given long ago an invitation to live among the "gods" in Valinor, and a large number of them accepted (those elves became known as the "Eldar"), but not all those who undertook the journey completed it, and later some of those who made it to Valinor came back to pursue vengeance against Morgoth, the original lord of darkness before Sauron. The tale of the Eldar is not one of stagnation or decline, it is a tragedy. For millennia they heroically fought against evil. The greatest of their race perished in battle after battle in defiance of evil even though they could have left Middle Earth at any time. Many believed the Valar would come to save them from Morgoth, but when they finally did come it was only after the greater part of the Eldar in Middle Earth had been annihilated. By the time the Second Age came the Eldar were a fragment of what they had been, and yet they still led the races of Middle Earth against Sauron when he rose up to enslave them. It was not their fight, they could have left, but still they chose to expend what little strength they had left to defend the world from the remnant of Morgoth's tyranny.

And so the Third Age comes and there is almost nothing left of them. They are diminished, their strength spent and they have barely anything else left to give.

In the setting beef cattle is still experimental, and they only recently imported tomatoes. The whole point of the show is to display the tech advancements the average person had taken for granted, and it appears you still refuse to achnoledge it. We are talking about how a single nutmeg nut being worth its size in gold, and peppercorns were placed on the dinning room table to show off how rich you are. When you simply can't eat fruit that isn't in season. When ice cubes are cut from ice houses and bars reuse ice cubes from customers.

Orange Juice. You know that thing you can grab for a dollar a glass? Yeah, that would've been something else back then.
How about milk? Milk didn't taste the same back then. Wasn't overmuch safe, either. Cheese became a thing partly because fermenting milk made it safer to eat.
What about spices? Chili peppers were a big deal back them, they ran all the way to India to get fucking chili peppers.

Yes, yes, you're trying very hard to reach the point of praising the very wealthy modern society we have, but ignoring how cloying all the effusive praise is, as if the poor fantasy world peons didn't know a thing about culinary preparations at all.

But for example, there are critics who say tomatoes have become blander and more undesirable since the desire to have them year round and sorted by machine has developed.

That we eat foods without variety because we want the same stuff all year round, not to have things in season. And we have bread, bleached white to the point of blandness, and our milk does indeed taste different, and not least because of how overtreated it is to keep in on the shelf.

And yes, people did make seasoning back in the day, check out garum.

But no, Chili peppers are from Mexico, they are a North American plant. You're thinking of the other kind of Pepper.
>>

>But no, Chili peppers are from Mexico, they are a North American plant. You're thinking of the other kind of Pepper.

>did make seasoning
Nobody said they didn't make seasoning.

>But for example, there are critics who say tomatoes have become blander and more undesirable since the desire to have them year round and sorted by machine has developed.
Where is the mathematical proof of this? People have said cars feel more dangerous and not as solid and safe, but it is physically and mathematically untrue.

>That we eat foods without variety because we want the same stuff all year round, not to have things in season.
Why is this an issue?

>And we have bread, bleached white to the point of blandness
There are more types of bread than white bread.

>and our milk does indeed taste different, and not least because of how overtreated it is to keep in on the shelf.
There are more types of milk than the shit you drink. It's also something you can drink without dying of the trillion diseases within.

>>
>>159984157

People have however, acted like they had no culinary skills back in the day. It's kinda a recurring theme.

I'd say it'd be chemistry, not math directly, that would prove it. Unless adding up the various flavor compounds is that important to you. And it's been tested, yes. The gene that's tied to uniform ripening? Also tied to losing the flavoring process. Sad, no?

And those are the breads and milks you find, all across the land. Like it or not, they're quite prevalent.

Why don't you stop with your nonsense, and think with your head instead of some misguided outrage that I'm daring to say I'm that I'm a bit annoyed by the Mary Sue level food praise to be found.

Who has? People have acted like the actual food today was superior, because it is. When salt is disgustingly expensive unless you're right next to a saltwater ocean and sometimes even then, you have trouble actually making food, so people had to get creative.

>flavoring process
That isn't a single gene in most cases, and CRISPR now exists so that problem is also gone more or less at-whim.

>And those are the breads and milks you find, all across the land
Maybe in America.

>I'm that I'm a bit annoyed by the Mary Sue level food praise to be found.
It's not Mary Sue food praise.
Firstly, you state that they're all people of 'high status' when in fact, they aren't - adventurers aren't people of low status but neither are they people of high status.
Secondly, even those of high status would not be able to afford eating the things we sprinkle on our food at a whim every day, unless they're literal royalty.
Thirdly, because we have these ingredients at our fingertips, we have more leeway to experiment and find how to use nutmeg since it's cheap as fuck and we're not terrified of wasting half a pound of gold as a bad meal.
Fourthly, the owner of that resturant is himself implied and stated to be a very good chef.
There is no reason for us to be surprised that people who have never seen or rarely seen the ingredients he throws around like nothing would be impressed by his cooking.

Haven't you been reading this thread? Or the previous ones on this anime? And all the salt-laden food is part of modern food's issues.

You asked for science, and I point out to you that it exists. Of course, the mistake with the tomato isn't only one, try a Lenape potato.

Fear the day that Taco Bell wins the Franchise Wars

And yes, it is that level of praise, and no, the adventurers are quite high status, and I wouldn't say the problem is the sprinkles, the problem is the pouring it on. Which comes from having it at a whim, and actually having too much.

That also leads to a lack of variety, and cuts down on the experiments. Also note how characters in this story seem to be monomanical about the dishes they eat.

I don't mind the restaurant itself being good, or his chef, or even people being impressed, nor would it be "surprising" but it can reach the levels of grating that comes with being taken to Mary Sue-levels.

Modern health problems are only partly related to unhealthy food. The main problem is really the complete lack of exercise. People in medieval times eat almost as much calories as overweight modern humans, if they are labourers. The joke about "second breakfast" isn't a joke at all. Having six meals a day is sometimes needed if you really work that hard. Modern food quality is far better than medieval times in every respect, but that doesn't help you if you don't work it off.

Nope, sorry dude.

>>
>>159987425
>Pollution isn't new
>low quality fuel
I was talking more about stuff like lead / mercury poisoning, which actually was more rare unless you lived in places that used lead pipes (which was not everywhere or necessarily even common). Also, coal wasn't really known at all in Europe until the late middle ages, arguably until nearly the industrial era when it actually got used for stuff. Firewood creates ash, but generally doesn't have heavy pollution otherwise. Furthermore, life expectancies in the middle ages were, in fact, lower even after accounting for infant deaths when compared to seminomadic tribes (violent death aside), likely due to the problems of massed disease and yes, pollution.
>>
>>159987572
>I was talking more about stuff like lead / mercury poisoning
There is a surprising amount of lead in coal, you know. And same with radiation. Most of the stuff that modern pollution generates tend to also be released in old school fuels.

You'll notice that the life expectancy for both adults and children hit an all-time low when unregulated coal use in Britain hit its peak.

The subs implied that he imported it from a far away land, as otherwise it made no sense that his company has exclusive supply of the fruit/vegetable. This would be similar to how Italy never had Tomatoes until it was imported from the Americas, and that it is hard to imagine Italian food without it now.

Except there is nothing unusual about any of the foods in this show. It's not like you need to make some fake roast pork out of mashed potatoes and bacon. This is just straight normal food that you can just google recipes for.

And i am not saying that to make fun of the show. I outright made Corn Potage right after seeing ep 1. And all it took was to google a recipe. The foods are intentionally simple.

It probably wouldn't happen within the allocated episodes.
Basically the previous owner's daughter became an apprentice chef, and at some point she talked Aletta into working in the weekdays as well. This is very far away and not likely to be included in the anime at all.
>>
>>160002404
Well, who knows, maybe when the Space Dragon/Dark Elf joins the restaurant maybe there'll be more focus on the staff? Also the Red Dragon seems will visit the restaurant again so at least she will be a recurring character and interact more closely with Tenshu and Aletta.

Pretty much and we'll largely only see backstory for the chef through the fantasy customers' eyes. Like with this episode where the merchant apparently made deals with him or when the loli princess saw the grandfather still in the restaurant.

And if you're asking for more of Aletta's story, just know that she wasn't even supposed to be here yet in the LN.

He also orders healing herbs once in a while. In one case he obtained a herb that heals spinal injuries. So he is getting his money's worth.

We are basically getting enough people to fill out the restaurant and its ten small tables.

On the other hand, Kuro the 2nd waitress is definitely in the plot, so at least she got her role pushed forwards.
She works for free, her payment is all the chicken curry that's left at closing time.

You know that this show still has similarities with other isekai: MC is from another world, over powered/has a unique ability (in this case, the restaurant + his cooking/his unique dishes) and everybody is amazed by him. But the chef isn't really the MC and the story format, like other anons said, is more like Bartender. In a parallel world we might get an isekai Shokugeki no Souma as a cooking isekai.
Or maybe that already exists and anime adaptation coming soon.

Assuming it's two stories per episode then looking at all the characters in the OP/ED, there's still four or three and a half episodes left that need to be filled out. That's either going to be story points, customers that haven't shown up in the OP/ED, or some more SoL stuff with existing character interacting with each other.
>>
>>160003178
The best thing about it is that the food is not out of reach. That anyone can either find a cheap bistro to order such a thing for themselves, or just make their own. You will be surprised how immediate exercise helps. What is important is not to do anything too crazy at the start. For example, an overweight person will likely hurt himself at jogging. Start with a pool membership. I speak from experience.

Going from zero exercise to some exercise, will have a massive effect very quickly. Much faster than dietary changes.

Yes I am aware of the difference between beef cattle and dairy cattle, though that's actually pretty high quality even by first world standards iirc. I'm pretty sure ground beef is from dairy cows even in America. But ground beef with salt and pepper doesn't deserve the level of OISHIIIII!!! that it gets, even if it is quite luxurious by their standards. It's probably about even with what a nobleman would dine on.
I had a DM once in a game where we were nobility, and he was a master at making ordinary foods like french onion soup sound like super complex and luxurious delicacies fit for nobility (which they were in the time period) by describing how they were made rather than the name of the dish. The point being that some of the things he serves would be considered normal for a noble, while others like tomatoes or shrimp far from the coast are miraculous.

The first assumption newcomers make is that the chef is a wizard when they realize they got isekai'd. I guess if you see a horned maid from the get-go you'll think she's his familiar or something.

It's shit. Totally forgettable.
>>

Dragon cake and GODDAMN PETERHAUSEN would make lovely hatchlings.
>>
>>160011394
It's likely the same otherworld. Dragon flies over to Aletta and Samurai visits Shripe guy and they use his door and not whatever door the samurai typically uses.

The author of this is a no life NEET right? That would explained why all the food in the show are 1st grade plebs level food even in japan. All of them can be found frozen at 7-11 or Lawson.
>>
>>160017593
It seems to be simple western comfort foods, like dishes your parents made for you as a kid or something you'd make on a day off. There's nothing wrong with "pleb level" food like that.

Were you expecting haute cuisine catering exclusively to upper class tastes?

>Were you expecting haute cuisine catering exclusively to upper class tastes?

Yes, absolutely.

Or at least some real western food, not just yoshoku.
>>
>>160017593
that microwaved shit at 711 probably isn't cooked with love
>>
>hey dude no need to pay for all these food even though you have something of value to pay for it
>hey old man I know you're filthy rich already but here my bag full of gold coin for your bag full of cheap ass vegetable
>hey little girl I saw you once so today's on the house

Fuck this guy and his out-of-place generosity.

maybe the door has some built in magic that doesn't let assholes through that would dine and dash.
he probably has enough gold already to retire early from the dragon alone.

It's almost like treating your customers well is good for business.

>treating your customers well

He just serve them heavenly food and his service is already flawless. There's no reason to not charge them.

You're missing the whole point here. It isn't gourmet food for modern humans who are used to modern cuisine because to them things like these aren't supposed to be impressive. The whole point is how the isekai folks think about a run of the mill diner because of the gab between modern Earth food and their Medieval cuisine. Iseaki in general love to play around with this idea: something very average here can be god-like to the less civilized fantasy people who haven't seen it before. They were surprised lemon water was free and actually believed a parfait was clouds. The focus is on the isekai people reactions and the /comfy/ fantasy SoL rather than the food itself.

>There's no reason to not charge them.

People find his restaurant by accident. If he were to feed them while they are hungry and then insist that they pay, people may become suspicious of his intentions and/or feel extorted. It's a good way of assuring them that he's not trying to take advantage and that he really is telling the truth when he says he's a simple restaurateur who just happens to have a magic wormhole.

He can probably front the first taste from time to time, but then he gets them addicted, and they keep coming back for more.

He's a pusher man.
>>
>>160020629
Isekai day is his hobby, he earns money the other 6 days.
>>
>>160022974
seeing how a pot of stew gets him a handful of gold coins once a week, it's a hobby that pays extremely well.
>>
>>160023316
He spends his isekai bucks on isekai ingredients, he dumps the whole cash box every month apparently when Merchant visits.

This is an interesting conversation but can we talk about how stacked the goat girl is?

Are we sure she didn't get more demon traits like a life-draining vagina or inverted nipples?
>>
>>160025743
Maybe a stomach deformation too
>>
>>160025743
>inverted nipples
>demon traits
