The final episodes weren't completely irredeemable though. They were pretty kino stuff in a lot of ways. Not a perfect show but definitely one of the most aesthetic experiences of 2016.

Papika should have never been made a 33+ year old woman. She was introduced and developed throughout 9 whole episodes as a naive teen girl and Cocona's equal. Making her actually 20 years older and giving her this friendship with Salt and Mimi really ruined the synergy between her and Cocona as well as the momentum the show had built up to that point.

Otherwise it's a fine ending but that one twist really hurts the general feel of the show.

This I disagree with. FLFL was Oshiyama directorial debut and Okouchi has much more industry experience. It may not be an apples to apples comparison, but if anons are so insistent in comparing these two shows, to compare the two people who helmed their respective productions is not unwarranted.
