Why exactly they thought it would be a good a idea to give a second chance do this series 2 years later after the first season being a massive flop?
>>159950075
>yami yugi
nut
card games are always an easy cash grab from kids
>>159950075
Because the manga became huge once Duelist Kingdom hit so they tried again and struck gold
Because Duelist Kingdom, which funny enough began after their board game against Bakura. The revive the show this time giving now more focus on the card game since the manga pitched in in one chapter but they told Kaz to give it more focus since it was an interesting idea compared to his SAW sans gore plots
>>159950075
Because the manga was a huge success and the main reason S0 flopped was because it was a shit(tier) adaptation.
>>159950894
>but they told Kaz to give it more focus since it was an interesting idea compared to his SAW sans gore plots
This never happened. Kaz did it because of fanmail and it only lasted 2/6 arcs in the manga.
>>159951167
my bad, thanks for clearing that out, wasn't sure which made Kaz drove to give more focus on the cards. I mean never I heard a mangaka change a plot because of fanmail suggestion
>>159950894
>>159951696
Fucktard spreading misinformation
>>159951696
Apparently he got loads of fanmail about it since Death-T or something. Makes sense since it caused a huge uptick in the manga's popularity.
>>159952110
triggered little snowflake
Season 0:
+ Green-haired Kaiba
+ Megumi Ogata
+ Death-T and first RPG adapted
- Unfaithful to the manga in some things (Some punishment games, Miho being part of the MC's group)
- That fucking movie
DM:
+ Shunsuke Kazama and Kenjiro Tsuda
+ Kagami and pic related
+ No green-haired Kaiba
- Fillers up its ass and mostly unfaithful to the manga.
- No white suit Kaiba
Which one was the better adaptation, /a/?
>>159953565
Just read the manga.
>>159950075
Why did they remove ponytail?
>>159954173
she was never suppose to be part of the main cast in the manga
What I never understood is why season 0 had a movie if it sold so bad
>>159950075
the Duel Monsters bits were really popular
Duelist Kingdom was one of the most popular arcs in Shounen Jump, and they realized that every little boy in Japan wanted the cards.
>>159953812
Manga is shit and doesn't have go past GX
>the grammar in this thread
>>159956632
The GX manga is solid. I want them to adapt it.
The first episode of the second anime is so damn surreal.

>>159956632
Good. If you read the manga you'd see that the extent of how serious they take the card game is unplausible but not completely retarded. They are mostly played by kids as a hobby and for the most part come up because they're related to egyptian shenanigans. DM anime already made it stupid with its filler but GX introduced a dueling ACADEMY. A FUCKING ISLAND TO LEARN HOW TO PLAY A TRADING CARD GAME, WHICH IS EXACTLY HOW THE ORIGINAL MANGA TREATED IT AS.
>>159958307
What did you expect? only spics and niggers care about YGO.
>>159950963
>the main reason S0 flopped was because it was a shit(tier) adaptation.
Better than that sterile NAS shit that was Duel Monsters anyday
Loved the soundtrack

>it only lasted 2/6 arcs in the manga.
Those arcs were at least 70% of the manga
>>159953565
Shunsuke Kazama is a -
What a downgrade from Megumi Ogata holy shit
Also Miho was the one changed I liked in Season 0. She was infinitely more interesting than Anzu
>>159953565
>No white suit Kaiba
Could have sworn this was a thing in DM. He always wears white
>>159950075
>spawns an incredibly profitable card game and multi-media franchise
Sounds like a pretty good idea to me.
>>159962125
>Look at the official yugioh youtube channel
>It has the german version
Best Yami dub voice(heck even better than Shunsuke Kazama from the jap version)... way better than that shitty Dan Green with his retarded overly deep voice

By the time GX came around it'd already been established that there are professional players who do it for a living, much like how there's professional athletes in the real world. And there's also people in the real world who go to college specifically for sports so they can go pro once they're finished. A school dedicated to it really isn't all that far removed from that.
If you consider that Duel Monsters is basically seen as a competitive spectator sport in-universe, it's really not all that ridiculous.
Is it silly how seriously the card game is taken? Absolutely. But it is, and when you take into consideration how seriously it's taken, Duel Academy makes sense in that context.
>>159962178
>>159964074
The reason why it's a thing is because the worlds richest man is completely obsessed with the game and uses his billions of dollars to make the world just as obsessed as he is.
>>159964074
To be honest, NO...just no.
Making the TCG so widespread to the point that there's schools learning you how to play it removes a lot of the magic of the series in the first place.
With the original Yu-gi-oh you felt an earnest appreciation for games from the author. With GX and all of that other retarded spinoff shit it's just taken way too far.
In the original it was mostly kids who played games/the TCG and the adults that played it were usually villains/insane. After that everyone and their mother plays it and it's just not cool anymore.
>>159964208
the biggest thing that killed gx was dualing was extracurricular in the OG series. It was kids hanging out after class which is almost never mentioned. GX atmosphere was built around school giving it an entirely different feel
>>159964267
Well after Duelist Kingdom dueling was the main thing. The thing is it still felt like it was small-scale with only some dedicated autists who were competing in a kids card game.
In GX it's just gotten way too big and it's seen as a sort of way of life instead of just as a kids' card game which is why it feels so different.
The original reminds me of going to the store and buying a pack of those stickers hoping for some rare stickers trying to fill that album to win [insert grand prize here], trading stickers with the neighborhood kids/friends etc. It reminds me of childhood.
GX on the other hand fails to evoke the same kind of feelings in me.
>>159964392
Exactly my point. Duelist kingdom felt like a wacky fun ride with your bros.
GX was a fucking chore and constantly reminded you about a fucking school. One based on a card game no less
>>159964630
Yup
It's horrible too in my case since back in the day after school I would just come back home, turn on the TV, flick it to RTL II(german channel) and watch Yu-Gi-Oh to forget about that bullshit...just knowing that I would watch Yu-gi-oh after I got done with that shit got me through a lot of school days.
When GX started airing at first I was put off by the new protagonist/characters but what made it worse was the Harry Potter-style academy shit.
Yugioh(and other anime) used to be so cool for my childish mind but when GX aired I was like "this is lame, there's nothing cool and epic about this"
MONSTERS?
REAL MONSTERS?
Would you watch a down to Earth Yugioh GX with after school duel club activities which turns into Wixoss seven episodes in?
>>159965600
>GX
>down to earth
Pick one
What's his problem?
>>159965720
Best part of the movie tbqh and I'm not even a fan of his. Made me want to rewatch DM but in japanese just to hear his over the top god tier voice acting.
>>159965771
How was the movie?
>>159950075
Because it grew in popularity with DK and they thought it was a good idea to promote it and the card game. They clearly made the right choice.
>>159962178
>seriously complaining about realism when original manga has rich guy make game-based death theme park because he lost in a game
