So is this the new 2deep4you ending?
Which ending was worse? This one or the original ending to Evangelion?
>>
>2deep4you
There was nothing deep about it. It was just a cop-out from being left with no good options after too much bad writing.

And the ending to NGE(TV) was great, if a bit strange.

I didn't have a favourite character in Evangelion I hated them all equally so as a zaShuninafag Kado's was worse, by far.
Even though I know in my mind that he ascended and didn't die and he'll process all that information eventually I cannot forget his anguish as he died. Since his crying face is the last thing I saw I get the sense he'll suffer for eternity. And it makes me mad.
It only makes it worse that his death was at the hands of an underforeshadowed, rushed Deus ex Machina. I know it's good to break the rules of storytelling sometimes but really I cannot see Yukika as a successful case of that.
>>
>>159927875
>Since his crying face is the last thing I saw I get the sense he'll suffer for eternity.
Director said that both he and Shindo ascended, and that even though it won't be in human form, they will inevitably meet again.
So no eternal suffering, at least, even if a lot of what the production teams said afterwards sounds like damage control.

You can tell zaShu was the favorite character of the production staff by how much kinder they are to him than Nozaki was while writing the show.
>>
>>159927679
>2deep4you ending
nice buzzwords retard. it was straightforward as fuck
>>
>>159927955
I know but that's what I'm complaining about. They didn't make it obvious. In the audience's mind, the last thing they see of the emotional state of a character is true until they see him again. Seeing a bunch of tinkerbell sparkles leave the cocoon or having characters imply he's in 40 dimensional heaven beyond information now is far from enough. Especially for a born and raised fedora like me. I lack the spiritual background to appreciate this and I'm probably not alone.
All it would have taken is to make him die with a content expression on his face. Not while he's crying and running toward his husbando that was just sad.
>>
>>159928098
Supposedly the novel makes it more obvious? I'm not sure, since I've only heard bits and pieces from anons on 4chan.
But your argument still stands, since it sucks that a piece of supplementary material is required for any kind of satisfying conclusion for the gayylien. A novel that will never be translated out of its original language.
>>

Does anyone ever use "2deep4you" unironically?

>All it would have taken is to make him die with a content expression on his face.
To be fair, it wasn't really possible. He was still undergoing an enormous psychological shock, which is unpleasant by default. There couldn't be anything peaceful about an experience so overwhelming that it would overload a being of zaShunina's caliber.
>>
>>159928285

I disagree. Just let him reach Shindo's corpse, hold Shindo's hand, then blast him from behind just like in OP. Problem solved.

NGE's TV ending was great, and even more iconic than EoE's.

Also, Kaworu > zaCucknina
>>

Kaworu and zaShunina can't be compared imo. Sure they're both alien white haired pretty boy turned antagonist at the last minute but their respective character arcs were like day and night. Same for their relationship with the MC.

>>159929634
Just because it's iconic doesn't mean it's good. I recall it being one of the most infuriating endings to an anime ever just because of how little sense it made.

Personally, I really like his character development and concept. He goes from a completely blank slate with no emotions and progressively learns to become more human, but retains his very alien way of thinking.
He's cute in his behaviors when interacting with things (phone, bread, etc) and he's creepy in his "information-based" mentality.
His character design is nice, yes, but it's the emotional development that made me a fan.

The reviews said this dichotomy shines in the novel too, as zaShunina contemplates everything from mundane family conflicts to computer science and murder. He also has an interesting opinion about fiction writers.
>The living beings known as fiction writers are all mentally ill to some degree.
>>
Were zaShu's gifts really are mistakes? Sure I don't need Nanomis-Hein but the rest definitely bring more benefits than risks at short and long term. Everything got straight up rejected though sheer violence still got me to this day.

>The living beings known as fiction writers are all mentally ill to some degree.
I love self-deprecating humor.
Also, zaShunina has no place calling anyone mentally ill. Just saying.
>>
Just started reading Childhood's End. You guys weren't lying, Kado completely rips this off.
>>
>>159933637
Strictly speaking, he wasn't mentally ill. There wasn't any inherent issue with his mental wiring; all his problems were caused by a harmful foreign agent that invaded his system (human emotions). He basically got poisoned.
>>
>>159933585
They weren't, don't take Saraka's opinion at face value. She's just like a poltard who can't stand it whenever a kebab opens in the neighborhood. She can't stand the "purity" of her microcosme being polluted by external influence, positive or not.
Think of those african kids who could study in the evening thanks to the wam providing them with light. They can't now, the kid could have went on to become good enough to pursue studies, but yeah nope, humanity gotta stay humanity, thanks Saraka.
>>
>>159933847
No, he wasn't mentally ill. But he also doesn't have the context to make judgments on the mental state of humans, either.
>>
>>159933683
Childhood's End is the quintessential grandfather of all first contact stories. It's so logical and sensible that all of them have to resemble it to a certain extent, simply because it makes sense.

zaShunina being the most op being around should have been a sign that the negotiation with him will always ended up to be on his advantage.
Back when Shindo arming himself in ep 11 I was optimistic enough to believe that he would demand a negotiation on equal ground. But the poor writing remained its consistency anyway.

The could be no equal ground. You had two different species with completely different standards and priorities, both of them struggling to comprehend each other and both of them behaving irrationally (humans because it's their nature and zaShunina because he was in the middle of an emotional breakdown). As Mifune and others said several times, in situations like this it doesn't even matter if you have good intentions or not, because the communication baseline is already off.
>>
>>159934420
Humanity needed his knowledge and perspective for a proper oversight. Letting humans play with Nanomis-hein without any outside control would be a recipe for disaster.
>>
>>159934768
The mental breakdown is the result of Kojiro abandoning him. So if he could calm zaShunina down, then zaShu probably can finally listen to the demands. What else is impossible to solve if the mentality remained stable?
>>
>>159934886

>Wam: core/nucleus
>Rotowa: polity
>Tetlok: move
>Ekuwari: introduction

And from the book:

>Sostom: hold
>Miaha: name

Kado's is the worst ending in the history of anime. I marathoned the whole series in one night because the first eight or so episodes were fantastic, I was enjoying every minute of it, an interesting anime with plenty of metaphysics and mindfuck that started off with a genre bait-and-switch. The first two thirds of the show were mature and didn't rely on shitty anime tropes, and I loved that... then the rushed, god-awful ending happened that turned everything totally on its head and was just complete and utter shit, ending with a garbage mary sue that they pulled out of their ass just to kill off zaShunina because they made him too broken to get rid of any other way, then that character promptly fucks off to the afterlife immediately after accomplishing the sole purpose they wrote her in for. I have never seen an anime with such promise bomb so fucking hard at the end.

>>
>>159937105
That's the general consensus.
A number of us still like the series as a whole. We do acknowledge its faults, but we try not to let the ending sour the experience as a whole.
That said, the novel actually appears to be a very different and very interesting beast in itself.
And some of us just like zaShunina.
>>
>>159937250
Because ascending to a higher plane of existence!
Symbolism with the cranes!
Hakase going to the anisotropic and promising to be back later, so our toys may not be gone forever after all!
zaShunina and Shindo getting reunited in the afterlife even though zaShunina literally CAN'T die, so he just reached anisotropic enlightenment or something and ascended that way
I ain't saying it's great. It was very bad. However, it could easily have worked without changing any of the story beats if it had been approached in a slightly different manner.
Proper foreshadowing, for one, could have gone a long way toward fixing the ending.
>>
>>159937261
You don't watch much anime, then.

What the hell was up with the ring? Where did it come from? Why did it break? She said it was a promise or something? Did she always know she was an aniso or did she think she was a human? A kiss scene between who? Shindo and Saraka? Shindo and zaShunina? I can't see any reason to argue for Shindo and Saraka since they've already kissed twice.

It's kind of hilarious just how much the staff ships zaShu and Shindo.
>>
>>159928854
why are the roles reversed here

What was the point of Shindo and Saraka being paired up other than for a reason for Deus Ex Machina child to exist?
>>
>>159957331
> I can't see any reason to argue for Shindo and Saraka since they've already kissed twice
Dumb dumbo anon, if they argued it's proabably because they were wondering whether it was worth including them.
They probably ended up doing these because they wanted to wrap up the shit romance with Saraka quickly without alloting too much time to romantic scenes between Shindo and Saraka, so zaShunina could have more screentime. Or at least that's what I would have done, as a zaShuninafag.

As much as I like zaShunina, I still think they could have sacrificed some of his screentime to show Shindo and Tsukai growing closer. Or, hell, have Shindo react with more than :| during the entire date in episode 8. Just something to make it feel less out of left field.
>>
>>159928880
I want a statue of this.
>>
>>159928805

I was under the impression that Shindo's awareness of the anisotropic meant he knew that death wasn't really the end. On several other dimensions he still lives (hence his daughter talking to him at the end), so Death wasn't really a big deal.

Pulling out a literal Mary Sue surprised the fuck out of me, and I think that's kind of the point? If the anime ended with the suit working or a friendship punch I would have been disappointed.
>>
>>159937105

Calm your tits. Yea, the last 4 episodes was certainly a disappointing 180 in direction, but making due with that, It was the most glorious deus ex machina I've ever seen. Extradimensional daughteru out of nowhere to save humanity? I'm not even mad.

On some crazy level, the whole development is completely logical and sensible. You've got a being whose fundamental perception and standards are all about information; emotional appeals, blackmail, moralising, threats etc. don't really work on it because it doesn't think that way. You like that being and want to resolve the whole mess to everybody's satisfaction. The being years for the unknown and unexpected, but thanks to its intelligence, it can predict or at least guess most rational steps you could possibly take.
In these circumstances, pulling off insane unexpected shit is literally the only good solution.
>>
>>159960679
My nigga. The EoE end had great visuals, but the TV ending had much better characterization.

Unironically 2deep4u.
>>
>>159962616
>in these circumstances, pulling off insane unexpected shit is literally the only good solution
There were better ways to do this though. The idea is not bad at its core, the propblem is the lack of preparation, foreshadowing, and most glaringly, the "how did you know your daughter would become a literal god" problem. We're talking about a story here, and deus ex machinas are story anathemas.
Had Shindo been a douche who forced Saraka to pop babies into her hyperbolic time chamber for eternity until a singularity appeared, it would have fixed everything wrong with this ending.
Because I don't buy the "wow, there was no way zaShunina could have predicted this". The fuck? He gave them the Nanomis-hein. If he could predict that Shindo would use hyperspace wam why couldn't he predict they'd alter time to pop babies? The probability for Saraka to birth a singularity was low as fuck, no matter how you look at it. There is a discrepancy between how easy it was to create a god and zaShunina's lack of foresight.
>>
>>159958470
>as much as I like zaShunina, I still think they could have sacrificed some of his screentime
Fuck no. It's true that it comes out of left field as a result, but no. zaShunina is more important than making a shit out of left field endgame less shit and out of leftfield.

The narrator asks zaShunina to help him kill his father, so zaShunina's meditation about the writer's sanity is very appropriate. He himself doesn't consider it a moral issue, though.

>why couldn't he predict they'd alter time to pop babies?
I think he was under the impression that humans and anisotropes couldn't interbreed, setting aside that Saraka had a fully human body. Remember he said that it was impossible when he was having his little excited spazz-out.
>>
>>159971122
>I think he was under the impression that humans and anisotropes couldn't interbreed
There was absolutely no reason for him to think that. You said it yourself, Saraka had a fully human body. Anyways, if this belief was the crux of the reason why Yukika's existence is a surprise (I assume it's not just the cucking here) and zShunina's blindspot they should have lampshaded it in the show at some point. It would have been easy enough too, all Shindo needed to do was ask zaShunina how anisotropic beings reproduce.
>>
>>159971866
>>159971122
I don't think reproduction is something true anisotropics think about much. Keep in mind that they're sexless and immortal, so chances are that it simply didn't cross his mind because it's normally beyond his sphere of interest. He also had other things to angst about.
>>
>>159971866
There was that conversation Shindou had with his mum about anisotropes and their loneliness/ability to have children, but personally I didn't think the loneliness thing applied to either zaShunina or Tsukai anyway. And the kid thing turned out to be just some convenient plot device anyway, so I didn't really get the whole 'drinking with your kids' line. It just sounded like Mrs Shindou just wanted grandkids. The only thing that really mattered was the foreshadowing regarding Shindou's death and that was obvious as hell.
>>
>>159927955
Yeah, that's nothing but damage control. They're both DEAD. End of story.
>>

Anisotropes can't die though.

>>
>>159971026
He said 3D beings see only a fraction of the whole, so who knows what crazy shit he sees. His true perception seems to have been limited by his human form, though, since he complained about the lower dimensions being cramped.
>>
>>159974642
Go to bed, Shiro. The anisotropics are mostly information and information is literally never lost. The only exception might be the black hole singularity, but even that is uncertain.

They didn't scatter though. He was never tied to his physical body in the first place, so when it was destroyed, he was merely displaced.

This, probably. More like banished from the cocoon back to Novo. I also doubt the daughter ex machina killed all his alternate dimensions selves too.

Or maybe he is dead, and in the weird information beyond death place Shindou is at. Who knows.
>>
>>159975592
>Or maybe he is dead, and in the weird information beyond death place Shindou is at. Who knows.
He could still be in that "beyond information" place without actually being dead himself. They wouldn't have shown his particles flying off if there wasn't anything left of him still alive.
>>
>>159975675
>a being made of information

Unlikely. I know the staff said they'd meet eventually but that could very well take billions of years.

He did reach anisotropic enlightenment. With all of the buddhism references, it's not out of the question that he could have reached Nirvana while still alive.

A billion years is nothing to an anisotrope.

Yeah, that's why you should always be prepared in advance! Like this: fuck the chick you've known for three months, have a child, give it to your assistant and isolate them for 16 years so the child, who had the one in a gazillion chance to turn out to be some extra mega special being, becomes a living weapon to defeat the alien you were unable to negotiate with despite you being hyped as the most awesome professional ever. Negotiations don't always work indeed.
>>
>>159978198
They weren't. Communication was.
>>
>>159982042
And was there any communication? Because the way it was presented was terrible.
>>
>>159982463
Towards the end, the perspectives had diverged to the point regular communication became impossible. The show outright told you that communication was a minefield even during the best times, simply because there were such fundamental differences between zaShunina and humans.
>Shindo: What he's like... He's just so different. We speak the same language, but often even the basic concepts just don't get through.
There was nothing to "talk" about anymore, at least not without getting humans tanged in the process. Connecting to zaShunina on his bizzare instinctual level was most likely the only viable option to somewhat satisfy both sides.

The novel readers mentioned that since zaShunina's emotions and thoughts can be so alien, they often manifest in odd ways. There's a scene where he discusses a very concrete murder, yet his expression and tone are described as curious and very kind.
