Finished Escaflowne. The shoujo side was pretty bad, but the mecha action was more than amzing.
Watching Master Keaton. It's pretty interesting. Too bad that it is episodic.
And started Fushigi yuugi. It's bad, but good at the same time. I don't have it in me, to drop that.

I finished Initial D's first season and can honestly say I enjoyed the Chinese live-action movie more even though it didn't have any eurobeat.

On episode 17 of Slayers Next. The monsters seem a bit repetitive and inconsistent in power levels but I can't get tired of all this humor and the facial reactions are probably my favorite part.

The plans for a Pippi adaption were laid in the very early 70's, when Takahata was primarily known for Hols, which was a financial failure, Miyazaki, while an influential animator, had yet to make his directorial debut, and anime in general was almost completely unknown in the west. On top of that, you had the earlier Moomin adaptions which Tove Jansson hated.
With all this in mind it makes perfect sense that Lindgren declined.

El Hazard's circular arc was just very satisfying in a way that most anime can't scratch. Like the other anon said, give it maybe half a year and cheap out the second OVA, then you can Wanderers and Alternate World whenever. Wanders is to El Hazard as Universe is to Tenchi.

I'm still working through Rune Soldier Louie. It's really nothing special, not the kind of the thing that people would point back to when talking about the wealth of fantasy anime, like they would with El Hazard.

It was a while ago now but the last thing I finished was Tokimeki Tonight. Really fun show. At the beginning I was just entertained at how awful everyone was, but the shallow gag romance slowly gets you to care for it and I was charmed by them by the end. It felt like it just stopped out of nowhere though, and looking at how much farther the manga goes I'm sad more wasn't adapted.
I bet that ED was a meme for its time.

It gave me a craving for something similar in tone so I started watching Igano Kabamaru but I wasn't feeling it. Now I'm rewatching Mahoujin Guru Guru since the remake is airing. Kind of wish I hadn't because I'm missing the narrator in the new one.

In that case it's definitely worth continuing. The second half of the show had some of my favorite episodes and watching Ranze and Shun build a good relationship after her comical one sided pining for so long is very satisfying.
Like I said the sudden drama shift is a bit weird, but it isn't bad and it's easy to accept as one of the quirks of the show. It still stays fun.

Ranze was the best. It was only when I checked out some similar shows to watch that I realized what I wanted was more Ranze.

I watched up to episode 55 of Hokuto no Ken and cried like a little bitch

OVA 2 is average/bad, but if you watch it right after Magnificent World it will feel even worse.
The Alternative World is an unfinished mess that just leaves you frustrated. They stumble around for 12 episodes in another world they're transported to before the show was canned. It would've been better if it wasn't attached to the El-Hazard name.
The Wanderer's is a 26 episode remake of OVA 1, much in the same was that Tenchi Universe was to Ryo-Ohki OVA 1. It worked with Tenchi though because the OVAs all have pacing issues in addition to large amounts of time not doing anything in the end, so 26 episodes works well to flesh out the story and characters where required. Some characteristics of certain characters may have been played up or become more of a focus, but it's still true to Tenchi.
El-Hazard doesn't have any of those issues though. It's as long as it needs to be and covered everything you need to know. You're left with a desire to watch more simply because of how good it was. The Wanderers is a stretched out frustration to watch. Fatora doesn't exist so Alielle isn't a lesbian (or at least not latching onto every woman she sees), Rune Venus is now an 18 year old girl who is naïve of the world at large and now Makoto's main love interest, so the Phantom Tribe also doesn't exist. Ifurita is now a ditzy moron and more of a source of comic relief than anything else. You're not watching a retelling of The Magnificent World, you're watching something stupid that vaguely follows the plot of the first OVA with a cast of characters where half of them are nothing like what they used to be for no legitimate reason. Don't watch The Wanderers.

Recently rewatched RoV for the 4th time. I used to not like the second half of the last episode but I've come to like it especially the part with the last moments of Marie Antoinette. The final words of the show are still shit though.

Same here, man, I love that kind of stuff. Anime based off classic Western literature and such. For years I didn't realize just how much of it there was out there, and once I did I couldn't believe how much great stuff I'd been missing. Some amazing adaptations out there thanks to World Masterpiece Theater and a lot of the imitators it inspired. A lot of these adaptations put any other Western adaptions of their specific works to shame, and the combo of anime aesthetics works so good with a lot of them, too. Pic very related.

There are only raws of 2-3 episodes, as far as I know no one capped or made the rebroadcast available. And there hasn't been any homerelease outside a possible vhs release.

But seeing how the Japanese are uploading a ton of things that has never had a homerelease on various Japanese streaming sites, it might just be a matter of time before it becomes available.

The original OVAs were great, but they're still much more style over substance. Pet projects of animators, not writers.
They didn't have a plan for the show, which is why Priss leaves(her VA wanted out) but then comes back(negotiations with her VA worked out) and why it never had a real ending.

2040 has far less style, but at least it has a consistent tone and story and explains what the boomers and their plague are in a consistent manner. And I thought Sylia having a personal vendetta against Genom and the boomers was a better motivation that her purely mercenary one in the original.
Yes, it goes crazy in the end with the Galatia plot, but it was a post-Eva mecha. That was like a requirement or something.

I say 2040's still worth a watch, but it is lacking in the music, art and just plain style department.
And it's not quite the ensemble piece that the original was either. It's mostly centered around Linna as a newcomer to Megatokyo and the Knight Sabers, needing everything explained to her, and subsequently the audience. Giving a better learning curve than the dumping you in the action and saying "this is happening. Deal with it, faggot" that we got in the original.

I'm having a really hard time finishing Gaim. I'm only 12 or so episodes away from finishing it, but I can't even bear finishing a single episode.
Honestly, its just way too plot-driven. I'm much more of a character guy, and after 40 episodes of plot and very little character development, I just don't care anymore. The same thing happened with Turn A, albeit to a lesser extent. I enjoy two cour Tomino shows, but I just lose interest in anything longer.

Anyone else unable to drop anything after they start it? I always want to know how it ends so I end up reading or watching the entire thing. Makes me hesitant to pick up longer series because if it's really bad I will force myself through that shit

I wasn't a fan of the pacing. I'm sad thought that I got spoiled about some things early on, and also that some of the ending chapters were left out of the anime. I guess they were put into the sequel OVAs/films.

I didn't have an issue with the pacing. I also think the Cross Game anime was better than the manga. In fact that only bad Adachi adaptation is H2 I think.

I don't drop a show unless I really fucking hate it, but what I do all-the-fucking-time is "drop" shows due to negligence or being busy and end up having to marathon and catch up or put it to the side and chip away at it while I juggle the new seasons stuff and things on my backlog. I still have to finish Sangatsu no Lion. I do tend to avoid longer shows for the same reason though.

How does the manga end? The anime ending was such a letdown because it just ended before the stuff they had been building up to even started.

This is why it's hard to me to want to start things, because I just want to compulsively have it all watched eventually.

Even with my massive completion list, my backlog is probably about another 200 series, not counting the shows I'm not aware of and will want to watch.

Recently finished the Lupin series of shows (1, 2, 3, 4 and The Woman Called Fujiko Mine), looking forward to series 5. Just started Utena, I like it a lot.

Anyways MAJOR H2 SPOILERS: They tease at the Hiro x Hikari pairing until the end. Hiro and his friend go to the Koushien on opposite teams but Hiro ends up winning in the semi-finals. Hikari and her boyfriend are confirmed as staying together and Hiro ends up with no one though it may or may not have been implied that he will eventually get together with Haruki. Don't remember it's been a while. Oh and the hot skinny manager ends up getting together with that douchy guy from the soccer team. They don't know the final Koushien game as it's implied the real final was the semies

I'm the exact opposite. It's hard for me to get through things because I get bored so easily. There are probably dozens of series I've dropped over the years, and I'll never even think of them again.

Which is one thing with anime that I download, but my apartment is full of books I've bought, then stopped reading halfway through.

I liked it despite it being kinda cliche, the twist was unexpected though.
