That's just it. They're a cash cow designed to draw in fans who heard the show is well regarded, but can't be fucked to sit through it because it's 26 episodes long and "old". Not much of what makes NGE great is packed into these films, although I'll admit the soundtracks can be pretty great at times.

Let me lay out for you just one of the many issues with the movie. Let's focus on one of the many characters who were required to be an idiot for the plot to work. Let's talk Misato.

Misato spent the first two movies + off screen time with Shinji. In that time she learned some very basic things about him. If you treat him nicely, he'll do whatever you want. Conversely, if you treat him horribly, he will shut down and not listen. It's literally one of his fucking defining character traits. So what does she do when they get him in the beginning of 3? Locks him in a cell, explains NOTHING to him, and treats him like shit. If she weren't an idiot, she would know that's the ONE WAY to get him to NOT do what she wanted. And don't give me that crap about "she blames him for what happened". Do you remember what happened at the end of the second movie? That's right, Misato was cheering him on, telling him to rescue Rei no matter what, even if the entire world was against him.

Again, this is just ONE aspect of the movie that makes no god damn sense. There are so many of them I don't have time to waste typing them all out. It's got the plot of a Michael Bay movie. You can like it because it has pretty colors and shit, but don't pretend that it was well written.

It's pretty safe to assume that Eva 13 is based on Lilith like Unit 1 was right? Since the Angel in unit 6 and Kaoru is what causes 4th impact and that seems to be the cause of the other impacts in the series, that would make sense wouldn't it? Also another thing brainlets don't get is the relationship between SEELE, angels and NERV.
NERV is owned by SEELE its a puppet organisation.
SEELE is responsible for activating angels and directing then at NERV because its a sceduled prophecy.
The goal is to get the prophecy right to perfect instrumentality.
Shinji screws it up everytime. Rebuild is explaining how the plan is on repeat but its gradually getting worse. That why the whole you cannot/can thing exists in rebuild.

I just assume that most of the key points about the world and everything before the first episode are either similar or the same, without really sticking to that idea strictly to the point of being inflexible. I think it works cause I've always viewed the Rebuilds as supplementary movies that are both better and more sensible when you have viewed them after the series and EOE. It feels like they were very much intended to be seen in that order, even if they can be watched on their own.
