The manga is a masterpiece. Dragon Ball's animation ranges from great to absolute shit depending on the art director, so I would just read the manga if I were you.

I have read the manga and watched the anime multiple times, and the only reason Dragon Ball is sometimes not praised and shat on is because of nostalgiafags like you with the DBZ bullshit.
It is indeed my favorite anime as well, but it has serious flaws. The manga though, is almost perfect.

I grew up with it so it's perfect for me. Others get bored quick. I will say the manga is better but the manga will never capture my heart like watching Goku transform on tv
