I would say if you like sci-fi and fan service you will like the series overall. I watched all 3 seasons including the movies and the OVA it came out with. Definitely a good series that starts out with fanservice but does have plot to back it up.

It's light-hearted on the plot sure but honestly that's what makes Tenchi Muyo interesting in the first place. It never takes itself too seriously.

It was called "the best show that nobody watched" because of the fucked up release format.

Honestly it was great. It's not at all held back by being an Isekai and you can watch it without being familiar with Tenchi. But you should probably watch Tenchi Muyo (OAVs only, fuck the other series) so you can get the most enjoyment out of it.

1st movie was great and I have a soft spot for the 2nd, but I don't care for the 3rd. The plot and the personalities of the cast in Universe felt like a degradation from the OAVs (which I watched first) which was a real disappointment. Movie 1 is the only worthwhile media from Universe in my opinion.

Universe is shit. It took a bunch of interesting characters and stripped away everything from them until all that was left were generic archetypes. Ayeka became a haughty princess. Washu became a mad scientist. Mihoshi became a bumbling retard. The only reason that trash fire is remembered is because it was called Tenchi.

The first 3 episodes of ova 4 are already out. If you didn't like ova 3 you won't like this. The first 3 episodes were about Nobuyuki's and Rea's wedding. With plenty of "new" characters being introduced each episode. Also lots of references to the GXP novels because they're desperate for people reading GXP to buy the ova. Episode 4 looks like there will be a time skip because they've released pics of Kenshi as a kid >>159819643 as well as a slightly older Ryo-Ohki.

With the abrupt time skip it seems like they're setting up to adapt the If doujins for ova 5. If ova 5 ever happens.

"New" as in from untranslated novels. Just like how people complain about ova 3 introducing a bunch of "new" characters even though some weren't new. They were from the Shin Tenchi novels and Airi and Seto appeared in the GXP anime, but people still act like they were introduced in ova 3. Some characters were even in ova 3 at Kiyone's funeral, but didn't show up because ova 3 got cut short.

GXP volume 15 sold around 14,000 copies. OVA 4 episode 3 sold around 6000 copies.

ova 2 sold well and ova 3 didn't come out until 10 years later. ova 3 sold well but still got cut short and ova 4 didn't come out until 10 years later. ova 4 might be selling well, but I'm going to keep my expectations low here. AIC doesn't exactly have a good track record with Tenchi. It doesn't help that they're already trying to milk ova 4's success by announcing a new Pretty Sammy series is in the works.

It really depends on how you go into it. If you want an escflowne-esque mecha show, you are going to be deeply dispointed. If you are after a ecchi harem show, yeah, it doesn't fill that niche very well either.

This show's strength is slice of life with a helping of old school harem, with a ton of world building. They show barely does action, but when it does get around to it, it's damn good action scenes.
