This is, quite possibly, THE best crime anime ever created.
It tried it's best to stay loyal to the mafia side of things, I really enjoyed it though.
We need more shows like these cause mafia like is interesting.
Nice to see threads about it still. Just last night I started to listen to Rain or Shine again. I liked it but it it kinda fell flat of some of my expectations. I kinda wanted a bit more action and didn't like how they seemed to skip over some stuff. Honesty my biggest issue I think is that I sorta wanted more Baccano and it didn't deliver on that, but I guess that's not fair of me. And I'll never forgive MC for what he ended up doing to his friend. Still had some pretty good moments and I really enjoyed the character designs. Also Fango or whatever.
I liked it a lot. The animation was good and I think they managed to keep tension up for most of the series. I really appreciated the homages to Godfather and the cinematic style of the show. I can definitely understand criticism about the ending or how there could have been more action but I'm glad they didn't drag it out too long or have a shootout every 5 minutes. I would definitely like a longer story that's like 91 Days but with a different premise or at least another season of Baccano. Either way Anime could definitely use more serious crime stories.
Well there aren't many good crime anime, so maybe you're right. But then Gungrave does a better job of developing that central "partners in crime" relationship and Black Lagoon is just straight up more stylish and fun.
I think it was okay and had good moments but in the end it was very forgettable. Though if you like the genre, go ahead, it's at least entertaining.
It looked like shit and the lolsocrazy antagonist was annoying.
Excellent anime, GOAT opening
>What if one of those cool crime films was a mediocre anime?
Also Gonzo had the most retarded plan ever conceived by trusting Angelo. This shit always happens with you people. A fucking anime tries something different and no matter how shitty its execution you all hail it as a masterpiece. I'll give them credit for at least trying but that's about it. Not every one of these special little boys gets to be Rakugo.
What's wrong? Have you never seen an anisotropic kid playing ball in the park?
While they have similar setting they are completely different stories. Baccano goes all out with magical bullshit while 91 Days stays grounded.
The ending felt like a cop-out. In my experiences, most of the time those kinds of inconclusive are written not when one is trying to make an artistic statement, but when one has no fucking clue which ending to use.
'Ambiguous' endings are not clever, they are laziness and desperation, and I say this as someone who's seen a fair few,
and written a few as well.
It's ending is a masterpiece in comparison to this shitfesst, though. God dammit, why did I ever trust Toei?
And, forgot my picture. This series had quality fucking everywhere.
>THE best crime anime ever created.
IT IS NOT.
As a Godfather's fan, this anime is nothing but a cheap knock off.
Not even kidding.
Gungrave is way better than this with its originality.
Shit crime anime, good bromance, and a nice twist on revenge stories.
I swear kids these days are spoiled. Or maybe they never watched a filler naruto episode made in 16 hours.
Are you kidding? We're getting new tools in digital animation all the time, and animators are getting better at using them. Compare the QUALITY of today with ten years ago and the difference is stark. Hell, the japs are even getting good at using cg shit. There's a scene in ep 2 of kakegurui that I didn't even realize was all cg at first.
I really don't see what kind of tools help making an animation more consistent beside good animators making good drawings. As far as I know, RETAS and post production never turned a bad animation into a good one.
I was VERY late to the quality screen-capping party, these are relatively mild. The problem was endemic to damn near every episode. And these weren't just in-betweens, either. There were full 1-3 minute conversations with people looking horribly-off model.
This one's a bit nitpicky, but like I said, I was late to screencapping, and I'm starting to run dry already.
Seriously, that doesn't look that bad. This is what QUALITY looked like ten years ago
It's not that I don't think it did it's that I don't know because I never used it so I was fishing for an answer but all you seem to be able to give me are empty posts where you're full of yourself shooting down my answer without any arguments or specific details on how it's done.
We're not even discussing how 90% of the scenes/backgrounds in this anime looked like literal fuck ass. Its so fucking disgusting I don't know how people actually stomach this shit.
It genuinely makes me wonder if the people drawing these have ever been outside before.
It had a very simple story but it was told almost impeccably. The moment where Angelo's plan reaches it's climax and he finally has his revenge was perfect.
I know right, I didn't expect to burst into tears over this anime.
The whole series lulls you into the sense Angelo is a stoic character with subdued expressions and emotions. But then suddenly this scene comes, everything he kept inside him for a decade comes rushing, and it's devastating to watch.
It was the best anime of 2016 for me followed by Thunderbolt Fantasy, Ajin, and Shouwa Genroku
I can wait until
Funimationreleases the complete series on blu ray so I can see the improved animation since the anime did have great QUALITY moments at times
Fuck this anime, now I hurt inside everytime I see a can of pineapple.
I don't know if you've seen them yet but I've seen 2 new character designs
on tumblrand it's expected to come out 2018. There was a side novel about the pasts of the 2 main male leads, I think came out a few months ago too.
he was really a best boy who dindu nuffin
Maybe this is bait but my problem with Black Lagoon is that it just feels too formulaic/simple at times. I really like the animation and aesthetic of it but sometimes it just feels like nothing's at stake or there's little tension to Revy taking out 20 guys. The parts where the characters have to actually deal with the harshness of the world instead of blowing it up or shooting it are the best for me. Maybe there's more of that to be seen in the manga, I haven't read it. Still a fun watch though. I guess 91 Days and Black Lagoon scratch opposite itches for me and if they could take a bit more from each other they might just reach perfection in my eyes.
This was definitely the AOTY 2016. It had some QUALITY issues, and the plot was simple, but it told the story extremely well, with a great take on the endgame of revenge stories
black lagoon is an accurate anime adaptation action movies right down to the cheesiness of the plot. you could toss blacklagoon into an 80s marathon and nobody would bat an eye except for the anime angle.
91 doesnt even come close to the worst mafia movie or sopranos ep in terms of plot or depth.
>Baccano goes all out with magical bullshit while 91 Days stays grounded.
You forgot that 91 days has one of the most forgettable and irrelevant casts ever conceived, centered around contrived bullshit
