I stand by my past feelings.
Trigger should have had her sacrifice herself in order to stop the missile, somehow it would initiate a timeline reset into the OVA timeline, but in the OVA timeline Croix doesn't exist. No one will ever know that she existed. However Ursula still has the old photo of them together that she still looks at from time to time with a fond remembrance of someone she can't remember, except this time the part of the picture with Croix is faded & aged beyond recognition.
A truly unwanted, unsung hero who still managed to fulfill her lifelong dream despite everything and everybody going against her throughout her life.

It would have been bittersweet.
Sure the idea is a little "deep" and dark, but it would still end the series on good note.
Croix's sacrifice reshaped the world and saved everyone. What could be better than that? Now all Akko and co. would have to worry about is having fun little witch adventures and passing their classes. Just like the theme the OVA's had.

I wouldn't mind more on Chariot so long as it doesn't focus so much on her relationship with Croix.

I got tired of how much the show was focusing on that pretty quickly. In my eyes it failed to make their relationship salvageable, Croix is basically irredeemable, the way everything wrapped up in the end is frankly mindboggling to me, are we really supposed to be endeared to these characters? Croix became selfish for power, and basically attempted to get witches and innocent people killed a number of times. Chariot got annoying with all the whacky decisions she was making (when not just being outright passive), she was more endearing when she was just saying "Shiny Chariot... huh?" and staring off into the distance. I get the characterisation but the execution was terrible, it became aggravating to watch when it ought to be, you know... entertaining.

Not that guy, but their reasons aren't very convincing.

They talk about not having time in the show to do certain things and yet you have a number of episodes that are complete wastes and the Chariot/Ursula/Akko clusterfuck at the ending of the show getting taxing because it was quite drawn out and even repetitive at times.

It's pretty clear what they didn't have time for was actually planning their show before they had to leap into production.
