Is FotNS even worth watching? Isn't it full of filler and deviates from the manga rampantly?

It doesn't deviate from the manga as far as main plot goes, no character lives when they should have died or nothing like that.

It does have a lot of filler though, but it's more of a "bad-guy of the week" kind of filler, so action happens each episode and you always get your fix of Ken killing something.

I'd say it's worth watching, but you have to be patient, and it gets slow at parts. You even have a few recap episodes, especially like...five in a row right before the end of the first series, which is ridiculous. There is probably a guide somewhere that can tell you which episodes to skip. Out of 150 episodes, you can probably skip 45 max. That sounds like a lot, but hey, it is a product of its era.

I just wish a modern production company would make a new anime series based off of the manga directly, no bullshit, just new animation and fresh, better writing, plus proper translation, as the original's subs are...subpar at bits.

It's worth watching, but you will scrutinize.
