Ping Pong the Animation might be my favorite sports anime just by right of its characters, their development and the show's overall message. Judo is probably my favorite sport to watch. Yawara was good, but not really comparable to something like Ashita no Joe, Giant Killing or Ping Pong. I always get hype when somebody does juji gatame, ippon seoi nage or tomoe nage in shows, though. Those three show up shit-tons in all manner of shows--especially slap-stick stuff.

Slam Dunk. The manga at least, never saw the anime.

Also does mahjong count as a sport?

I liked Swan a lot, it's a seventies manga about ballet. Yowamushi Pedal is also a really good underdog story if you just read until the end of the first inter-high.

Ashita No Joe. Probably the best anime ever created, Dezaki was a genius.

Boxing. I also love to watch or read anything related to martial arts. Other works about different sports like Aim for the ace, Kokou no Hito, Touch are also amazing.
