The silly thing with the rivalry is that:
a) Akko will never surpass or match Diana in most things
b) Akko and Diana are the strongest together and they basically recognize each other as the best thing ever
c) After all they've done with Diana there is nobody that would actually root for Akko in a competition. Then again, the only time they got this "rooting for Akko over Diana" feel from the audience right was in episode 13.

The rivalry is just friendship under a different name and extremely light-hearted, mostly existing in a natural dislike for losing from two proud girls that really admire each other either way. As a rivalry it made more sense in Terioverse and OVAverse, were it actually felt like Akko had the potential to be better than Diana and accomplish something she never could while in the TV series their respective strengths are highlighted and they exist in a situation in which together they can shine the brightest. It's a more complex and likeable relationship but a less satisfying rivalry.

So, from trigger i had only watched KLK and LWA until this series finished.
But in the last 2 weeks i've been watching everything else this studio has done.

The plot itself was fine, it just didn't need as many episodes dedicated to it. Ultimately, a lot of shit felt superfluous. Croix and Chariot's dumb almost battles went literally nowhere. Episodes 15 and 21 could have been condensed into a single episode .

Croix and Chariot aren't particularly popular and they want a lighter S2. I don't see them getting much focus in S2.

I like it either way, but I agree with the decision of Trigger. You'd need to increase focus to make the romance better written to avoid Akko being defined by dick, or make it so minor that even shoehorn anon would be blow away by how abrupt it is.

And it's a worthless power-up to begin with since it didn't allow Chariot to do decent shows without Dream Fuel Spirit or even match Croix so I don't get your point. Akko has charisma and the ability to change people but I don't see her mastering hundreds of spells like Diana or becoming as fast in a broom. Chariot didn't become better than Croix.

1. Was the show "successful"? How did it do in terms of commercial profit and reception in Japan? And what letter grade would you give it?

Except this part is wrong and it's the other way around. They scrapped Andrew being a love interest because his character would be defined by liking Akko and not eventually accepting magic. It would just be like he likes magic now because he likes Akko. They figured that it's not the best way to go about it and scraped it.

We all know Diana alone can't be a protagonist if her backstory remains the same. She's a Akko's foil and where Akko is loud, clumsy and openly loud about liking Chariot, Diana is the complete opposite. Diana wouldn't have motivated herself in episode 20 without Akko and vice versa in 23. Honestly, these are all points discussed to death. Like some others said, Diana only works well as a secondary protagonist and not the primary one. Amanda's backstory sounds like it'll be a great one off episode but not necessarily something that gets her MC status.
